Temporary accommodation can be deeply unsafe for neurodivergent children, impacting their health and education.

New BBC News article highlights the lived experience of families with neurodivergent children in TA and the APPG for Households in Temporary Accommodation's report, "It's like torture: Life in Temporary Accommodation for Neurodivergent Children and their Families", by Dr Rosalie Warnock and Prof Katherine Brickell.

The report was released as part of the Sensory Lives Project, with Shared Health supporting the research to better understand how homeless families with neurodivergent children experience living in temporary accommodation.

It was great to be invited by Cratus Group to attend to help launch the 165,000 Reasons to End Children in Temporary Accommodation Campaign.

The campaign was first conceptualised a year ago when there were 165,000 children living in temporary accommodation in England. There are now over 176,000. This tells a stark story about the escalation of this crisis, and it is vital that we take action now.

UKREiiF provided an opportunity for different sectors to support and join the campaign, fostering a whole-system approach to tackling child homelessness.

Thank you to Cratus Group for hosting us, and to everyone who spoke with us about getting involved.

Modular homes like this studio apartment can be delivered and ready to live in in less than a week, and are Portakabin's truly innovative response to the homelessness crisis.

We were at UKREiiF this week with Cratus Group, as part of the 165,000 Reasons Campaign, joining the conversation on what good temporary accommodation looks like for families and children.

There are 165,000 reasons to act. Every one of them a child.

Come walk around with us!

We stopped by the Wates Group Pavilion to see the Wates Family Enterprise Trust, who we work with closely, and then walked around Portakabin's temporary accommodation modular home on site - their truly innovative response to the homelessness crisis.

We are at UKREiiF this week with Cratus Group, as part of the 165,000 Reasons Campaign.

Come and find us at the Cratus Group Pavilion in the Orange Zone, to chat about how you can get involved in improving temporary accommodation for children now.

No child’s home should be temporary. But for over 165,000 children in England, this is the reality.

It means children growing up without certainty. Without privacy. Without educational support. Without the stability of knowing where they will sleep next month, next week, or sometimes tonight.

Shared Health is supporting 165,000 Reasons because this cannot be allowed to become normal.

We’re joining a growing group of organisations across public and private sectors to push for practical action on better standards now, faster routes into stable homes, and long-term reform.

If you are at this week, come to one of our panel events with Cratus Group or meet us in the Cratus Pavilion, Orange Zone.

There are 165,000 reasons to act. Every one of them is a child.
