Rotary Club of Lyme Regis The official page for Rotary Club of Lyme Regis. A community service organisation which also hosts c Welcome to The Rotary Club of Lyme Regis.

If you don't already know the astounding size and the truly global nature of Rotary which, at the grass roots, is run on an individual club basis then please do follow the links on this page to find out more. Rotary activities include countless humanitarian projects both locally, nationally and internationally. In The Rotary Club of Lyme Regis we have our own projects and assist other Rotary Club

s and charities with larger projects, with both short and long term goals. We do this not only by fundraising but by using our skills and knowledge to serve. (Service Above Self is the Rotary motto). Some of the projects involve hard work, but then nothing is achieved without effort. We hope this page will give you a flavour of some or our activities. As a member of the public you can help us to fundraise by attending the events we put on, sponsor some or all of an event, donate money for general or specific projects, offer services or goods that we can use, such as a raffle prize. You could even remember us in your will, knowing that your gift will be wisely used as you wished! As a member of Rotary, you could also join in the social and sports events we have planned throughout the year. After all we are a group of like-minded people, helping others, getting an enormous amount of satisfaction from doing so and enjoying ourselves doing something we are all proud to be a part of it. If you are still curious about Rotary, could help us in some way, or if you are interested in joining us, please come along to find out more.

Lyme Bay Medical And Dental Practices are holding a relaxed Men’s Wellness Evening at Lyme Regis Medical Centre Wed 29 April 5.30pm-7.30pm.✨

It’s surprisingly common—especially among men—to put off seeing a doctor about symptoms that have been lingering for a while. Many brush things aside as “nothing serious” or say they “don’t want to waste the doctor’s time.” But sometimes it’s not about inconvenience—it’s about uncertainty or even fear, particularly as we get older.

The reality is that some underlying health conditions don’t show obvious symptoms early on. Simple, routine checks can make a big difference, offering reassurance or catching issues before they become more serious.

Take a proactive step for your health and go along to Lyme Regis Medical Centre on 29th April to learn more about straightforward, regular health checks that could save you a great deal of trouble—or even your life.

Drop in anytime between 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM for:
🔹FREE Walk-in Health Checks: Get your Blood Pressure and Pulse checked.
🔸 Vital Stats: Quick Height and Weight measurements.
🔹Screenings: Cholesterol and HBA1C/Diabetes tests available on-site.
🔸 Prostate Health: Learn about screening and book a PSA test if you are eligible.
🔹Expert Talks: Hear from LiveWell Dorset at 6:00 PM and join a Prostate Cancer Screening talk at 6:30 PM
🔸Wellbeing support – meet local support services from Access Wellbeing Hubs, Jurassic Coast Social Prescribers and Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support to help you stay at the top of your game – both physically and mentally.
☕🫖Tea and coffee will be available while you browse the services.

Nearly £3,000 Raised for Water Survival Box at Rotary Club of Lyme Regis Charity Lunch

Nearly £3,000 was raised for the Water Survival Box humanitarian aid project at the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis Soup and Ploughman’s Lunch, held today at the Alexandra Hotel and Restaurant.

Rotarians, along with friends and family, turned out in force to support the event, which proved to be both well-attended and highly successful. Funds raised will support Water Survival Box, a Rotary-backed initiative that provides rapid-response aid when disaster strikes.

In the aftermath of earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and other natural disasters, access to clean water is often one of the most urgent needs. Water Survival Box responds quickly by delivering essential survival kits containing water filtration units, hygiene supplies and basic tools to help communities begin rebuilding their lives.

Director of Operations Tony Quinn gave an insightful presentation, outlining the vital work of Water Survival Box and the life-saving impact the project continues to have around the world.

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis, Rob Harris presented Kathryn Haskins with a bouquet of flowers, praising her and the Alexandra Hotel staff for their unwavering support, generosity and contribution to the success of the event.

More than 1,000 hardy participants braved the chilly waters for the Lyme Lunge today, the New Year’s Day fancy dress sea dip organised by the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis. Thousands of spectators lined the seafront and filled the gardens to enjoy the colourful spectacle.

This year’s event was held in support of The Rainbow Trust, which helps families with children aged 0–18 facing life-threatening or terminal illnesses, and WellChild, a national UK charity that supports seriously ill children to be cared for at home.

Members of RNLI Lyme Regis were in the water throughout the event to ensure it passed safely.

A fabulous festive atmosphere filled Broad Street last night as a big crowd gathered for Carols Round the Tree, one of Lyme’s traditional and much-loved events, now in its 64th year.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis and supported, as always, by the brilliant Lyme Regis Town Band, the event raised funds for Children’s Hospice South West, which provides hospice care for babies, children and young people living with life-limiting conditions, as well as support for their families.

The Lyme Lunge – New Year’s Day Fancy Dress Sea Dip

The Lyme Lunge is an annual fancy-dress dip in the sea that takes place on New Year’s Day in Lyme Regis. Organised by the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis, the event begins at 1pm sharp on the sandy beach and aims to raise as much money as possible for charity.

Now a much-loved New Year’s tradition, the Lyme Lunge sees hundreds of hardy souls take a bracing plunge into the sea dressed in weird and wonderful outfits. The spectacle is watched by thousands of spectators on the beach and in the gardens above. Since its first year in 2009, when around 50 people took part, the event has grown enormously, with over 1,000 participants in 2024.

For those taking part, the Lyme Lunge provides an exhilarating way to start the New Year. A paddle in the sea is enough to say you’ve “taken the plunge” — whether you go all in or just dip your toes. Participants can raise sponsorship for charity or simply turn up on the day and take part.

To help warm everyone up afterwards, hot soup is provided for all Lungers, courtesy of The Harbour Inn, and a changing tent is available on the beach.

⭐How to Take Part⭐

Simply turn up in plenty of time for the 1pm start, ideally in fancy dress. We encourage all participants to raise as much sponsorship as possible, as all money raised will go to:

The Rainbow Trust – providing emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness

WellChild – helping seriously ill children, young people, and their families across the UK thrive at home
