♟️ City of Derry Chess Club Season Break ♟️

As another fantastic season comes to an end, City of Derry Chess Club is now CLOSED for the summer 😊

A huge thank you to everyone who came along throughout the season for the great games, support, laughs and brilliant club atmosphere.

We will reopen on Thursday 27th August 2026 for a fun evening of chess, our Annual Prize Giving and our Annual General Meeting.

We hope everyone has a great summer, and we look forward to seeing you all again in August ♟️✨

Just a quick update to let everyone know the chess club will not be running again until after New Year ♟️😊 We are taking a short break over the holidays and will be back once the new year starts, refreshed and ready for more games, events, and learning together!

There will be no club meeting during Halloween week, so take a well earned break (or practice your openings between sweets 🍬👻) We’ll be back on Thursday 6th November, ready for another brilliant night of chess at the Verbal Arts Centre! See you all then! ♟️🔥

What an amazing few weeks it’s been at the club! 🎉 The room has been full of energy, laughter, and some incredible chess battles from tense championship games to fast paced friendlies and plenty of smiles all around 😄 It’s been fantastic to see new members joining in, familiar faces returning, and the club growing stronger each week.

We’ve put together some photos from recent nights that really capture the atmosphere, focused faces, creative play, and that great sense of community that makes our club so special 📸❤️

Tributes have been paid to Charlie O’Donnell who has been fondly remembered as a ‘gentle and compassionate soul’ and a ‘pillar of the Creggan community’.

♟️Club Championship 2025 Round 2♟️

Round 2 of our Club Championship took place tonight and it was another brilliant evening of competitive and focused chess 🤓🔥 The games were intense, with some hard fought battles going right down to the final minutes on the clock ⏳ It’s great to see the standings starting to take shape and everyone bringing their best to the board each week.

As always, there was also plenty of friendly chess being played alongside the championship games, keeping the club buzzing with energy and laughter 😄♟️

🌟 ROUND 1 OF THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 🌟

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Thursday! The first round of our Club Championship 2025 kicked off in style with intense classical games ⏳ while others enjoyed plenty of fast paced friendly matches alongside them ⚡ It was brilliant seeing the room buzzing with focus, laughter, and great sportsmanship all around 🤗

It’s always wonderful to see familiar faces back at the boards and especially exciting to welcome some new members too 🙌 If you’re thinking about joining, don’t hesitate. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
