๐Ÿ“ข The ICC's jurisdiction must extend beyond Darfur. Our Communication to the ICC Prosecutor argues that the violence in the rest of Sudan is part of the same pattern of conduct of Darfur. The ICC has jurisdiction over crimes being committed across all of Sudan insofar as there is a sufficient link with the crimes in the Security Council referred to the ICC in Resolution 1593 (2005) ๐ŸŒ https://wix.to/QnUqnTN

Rights for Peace has been arguing that the International Criminal Court has jurisdiction for the whole of Sudan insofar as there is a sufficient link between crimes to be investigated and those subject in the initial referral by the Security Council to the International Criminal Court in Resolution....

โš–๏ธ A Landmark for Justice in Darfur

On October 6, 2025, the ICC convicted Ali Kushayb of 27 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including murder, r**e, torture and persecution, marking the first ever ICC conviction for crimes in Darfur.

This historic judgment affirms what victims have long stated: Kushayb was not a rogue actor, but part of a coordinated plan between militia and Sudanese state officials.

WHO WE ARE

Rights for Peace is a UK based non-profit supporting human rights groups in fragile states to break cycles of injustice that lead to mass violence.

Mass atrocities start with the erosion of individual and group rights. Rights for Peace works with local actors, supporting human rights initiatives to prevent identity based violence.

1 in 5 people (1.5 billion people) live in a conflict state. The number of displaced people worldwide is at a record high, fuelling poverty and migration.

However, very little money goes into trying to prevent identity-based violence. As the UN Secretary General says: โ€œwe spend far more time and resources on responding to crisis than we do on preventing them.โ€
