180 acres of woods, grassland, heathland and several ponds make up Chislehurst Commons. For more information visit www.chislehurstcommons.uk

It is maintained by volunteers who give up 2000 hours a year to assist the Keepers and the board of Trustees and it is also a registered charity. Since 1888, an Act of Parliament has given legal powers to a Board of Trustees to manage and protect Chislehurst Commons. The 180 acres of land are privately owned and require two full time keepers and an army of volunteers to maintain them.

Although any amount of rain in the weather forecast is most welcome at the moment, we were very disappointed that we had to cancel today’s walk on St. Paul’s Cray Common. The decision was taken for safety reasons after the Met Office issued a Yellow Weather Warning for thunderstorms. We cancelled a walk in June because a heatwave above 35 degrees was forecast, so we have not been lucky with our choice of dates this year. Thank you to all the people who signed up - we were very sorry not to meet you today. We will try again in the autumn, and hope that the weather will be kinder. What a lovely morning! We had a great time meeting everyone who came along to our Family Morning - the creativity displayed at the craft activities was amazing, and the twig boats were as popular as ever! This one is set to sail the seven seas! We will be here again next week - from 10am to 12.30, on the common at the junction of school Road and Church Row - and we look forward to another successful event. Come along and join us! 🦋🌸🎨🌳🐝🖼

Many many thanks to Mario and the team at the Crown, Chislehurst, for hosting an amazing end-of-session get-together for our wonderful working party volunteers. We value all the support they give us. And the garden of the Crown is a lovely setting. Our autumn programme of work begins in two weeks, but, in the meantime, take a good break everyone! You deserve it!

A regular task for Jonathan and Toby this summer has been watering the flowers around the War Memorial. Coolings Nurseries kindly donate the plants to ensure that the area remains a special
place of quiet, respectful remembrance. There are also several young trees that need regular water to help them in their first few years.💦🌷🌸🌳

We were proud to celebrate our Green Flag Award with the working party volunteers. They received the flag on behalf of all the wonderful people who helped us achieve the standard set by this international benchmark. Well done and a huge pat on the back to all!
And despite the heat, they were out this morning with the Keepers, clearing the pavement along Bromley Road to ensure that pedestrians can walk along it safely.
