All People All Places delivers community focussed services to break the cycle of homelessness

As part of Volunteers’ Week 2026 we want to take a moment to celebrate the heart of APAP’s Day Centre – our volunteers!

Our local response to homelessness is only possible because of our community of volunteers who work tirelessly to run the essential services we provide from our Day Centre in Edmonton, North London.

Anyone experiencing housing crisis who walks through our doors is given a warm welcome by Emma, Sharon, Barry, Rodney, Reiyad, Awa and Jakson, who make sure everyone feels safe, seen, and supported. They help people navigate essential services, find a hot meal or takeaway, provide towels for a shower, or access toiletries when they’re needed most. They are often the first face someone sees at our Day Centre, and we are so grateful to have them!

In the kitchen you’ll find Tony, Joy, Berhan, Elsa and Beti preparing delicious breakfasts, soups, sandwiches, and takeaway parcels. Joy will even occasionally surprise us with cakes, cookies, and special meals for workshop participants.

And every so often our OGs Nick and Liz pop in, checking in on the team and offering support wherever it’s needed. They are among the very first volunteers who helped build our services into what they are now.

And this year 3 volunteers have moved into paid roles – a reflection of their dedication and growth within the team.

This year so far, our volunteers have contributed 1,728 hours of support, covering:

• 2,183 client visits
• 461 showers
• 965 breakfasts
• 75 lunches
• 200 laundry washes
• 169 toiletries packs
• 286 clothing and shoe donations
• 181 laptop sessions
• 367 phones charged

Today is International S*x Workers' Day. This takes place every June 2nd to commemorate the anniversary of a historic 1975 protest, where over 100 s*x workers in Lyon, France went on strike and occupied a local church for 8 days. They were protesting their terrible working conditions, which included police harassment, violence from men, and a lack of access to healthcare.

People continue to commemorate this protest as many of these conditions are still faced by people involved in s*x work today across the globe, showing that there is more work to be done to change laws, reduce stigma and increase access to vital services.

APAP is about to launch a new project which aims to support women involved in s*x work locally in Haringey and Enfield. We will be going out on night-time outreach to meet women where they are working, providing food, condoms and support. We are also opening a new specialist drop-in where we can assist women to access housing, immigration and healthcare services.

We are inspired by the voices and experiences of s*x workers from the past and present, and what happens when women come together in solidarity to demand change.

Last month our Volunteer Coordinator Teodora celebrated our incredible Volunteer Team, who are at the heart of running our Day Centre in Pymmes Park, Edmonton.♥️

From cooking and serving meals for rough sleepers, to welcoming clients with warmth and kindness, to carefully packing essentials for those in need - our volunteers make a real difference every single day.🫂

What makes them even more special is that their compassion doesn’t stop at our doors. Many take the time to check in on people in the local community, offering a kind word or sharing an APAP leaflet whenever they can.🗣

To say thank you, we treated them to a delicious lunch at Capital Restaurant on Fore Street. 🍽️

She did it!

🦸‍♀️Our superhero services manager Grace completed the London Marathon on Sunday, raising a huge £3,227 for APAP. She was cheered along by our glamorous team of staff and volunteers.

🏃‍♂️ What an achievement! A massive thank you to Grace for her months training and to everyone who donated to support our work tackling homelessness in Haringey and Enfield.

We're very proud to share our new impact report showing all the incredible outcomes that were achieved through APAP's services last year. In the face of rising demand driven by the ongoing housing crisis that affects so many people across Enfield and Haringey, we've been working tirelessly to tackle and prevent homelessness.

Behind these numbers is a fantastic staff and volunteer team who show their commitment and dedication to our work in supporting some of the most vulnerable residents across Enfield and Haringey and we’re incredibly grateful for everything they do.

We’re marking UNESCO's international World Book Day by sharing books that reflect the challenges many of our clients face every day, from homelessness and housing crisis to displacement, war, and migration. See below for recommendations from our team and maybe discover your next read!

Emily recommends The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen: “This is a brilliant novel, following an anonymous narrator who is a North Vietnamese spy in the South Vietnamese army during the 1950’s. The book reflects on dual identity, colonisation, conflict and class. A gripping novel that is not only a page- turner but a deep insight into an individual experiencing homelessness and displacement over decades.”

Morgan recommends Dreamland by Rosa Rankin-Gee: "I loved this book, which is set in a near-future Margate where climate change has caused sea levels to rise and society is quickly crumbling. It follows a teenage girl in a family forced to relocate far out of London, and how their new seaside community is challenged by poverty, drugs, gendered violence, and the rise of the far-right."

Teodora recommends Hedgehog’s Home by Branko Ćopić & Death and the Dervish by Meša Selimović: "Hedgehog’s Home is a children’s book I love, it uses a simple but heartfelt story to show how dignity, identity, and security are deeply tied to having a home. I also chose Death and the Dervish as it takes a more philosophical approach to the idea of having a home, reflecting on isolation, fear, and the loss of inner stability."

Amy recommends This is London by Ben Judah:
“This book was written 10 years ago now but the themes and insights remain relevant. This is London provides lots of interesting context about how gentrification and multiculturalism play out across London. But it's not a dry read - it's full of vivid and poetic portrayals of the different lives, characters and communities across the city. Our own Enfield ever gets two chapters!"

Kumar recommends "The F*ck Up" by Arthur Nielson: "Through the main character’s point of view, we see how a chain of seemingly ordinary setbacks - losing a job, a relationship breakdown - can compound and quickly snowball into crisis.
