It’s about feeling seen, heard and understood. It’s being supported by a team who takes the time to understand your family, your path to parenthood and what you may want that family to look like in the future.



For LGBTQIA+ people and families, that means care that doesn’t make assumptions, and conversations that look beyond this treatment cycle to the family you may hope to build over time.

Let’s talk: Non-Bio Mama Challenges 🤍

Being a Non-Bio Mama or Parent (who often are also Non-Birthing Mama or Parent) can be difficult for many and comes with its challenges. 🏳️‍🌈

There are a lot of unspoken challenges, stigma and shame that comes with our experiences, especially having to consistently validate ourselves as Mamas or Parents that we are “enough”, “real” parents, and unpick the systemic and institutionalised erasure of our experiences (on top of the multitude of barriers that inherently impact our experiences.

The mental health impact on Non-Bio / Non-Birthing Mamas and Parents can be seismic for some - and often are overlooked, erased or unsupported. We need the healthcare systems, the workplace and society to recognise us, support us and hear us and provide representation of our identities, roles and experiences because if we struggle, our birthing partners do too.

We matter, and are intrinsically important to our family journey.

This National Inclusion Week, we’re reflecting on this year’s theme: Build Trust. Navigate Change.

For LGBTQIA+ families, trust and inclusion matter at every stage of family life. Whether it’s accessing fertility care, navigating pregnancy and birth, starting school, accessing healthcare or simply being welcomed in everyday spaces, families should never have to question whether they will be understood, respected or treated fairly. 🏳️‍🌈

Building trust means listening to people’s experiences, challenging assumptions and creating environments where everyone feels safe to be themselves. Navigating change means making sure that, as society and our families continue to evolve, inclusion remains at the heart of what we do.

Every family deserves to feel seen, valued and included. 💗🌈

🏳️‍🌈📯THEY SAID WHAT?!? IS SHE YOUR SISTER?!📯🏳️‍🌈

As LGBTQIA+ Mamas and Parents we often are faced with a multitude of assumptions, micro aggressions and of course discrimination, of which many sadly are used to but can cause upset, being uncomfortable and in some situations offense or harm.

Whilst often this question doesn’t come from a place of ill intent (unless it’s asked on purpose), it can be another barrier to overcome, meaning people have to ‘out’ themselves in the conversation- which can be within maternity services, primary care or everyday life when you are with your partner, fiancée or Wife.

And why is the assumption that it’s always a relative?
Even when we look nothing alike?

👏🏽Here’s some super Positive ways you can ask a question instead to find out their role: 🙌🏽

💗”Can I ask who’s here today?”
🤍”May I ask who you are to….”
💗 “I’m….. and you are?”
🤍”What is your relationship to this person?”
💗”Can you share with me who is who?”

There are much more positive ways people can ask open questions and be given information that they (may or may not) need.

Common sense can prevail, and lead to positive conversations and relationships!

I was delighted to attend the historical first Fertility APPG in-person roundtable. I sat alongside Katie Rollings Fertility Action who is leading the charge as the Fertility APPG secretariat, and Becky Kearns Becky Kearns of Fertility Matters at Work
We have been working together for a long time to bring this APPG to fruition. 💜

Our chair was Kate Osborne MP - who has worked incredibly hard to support, work alongside and advocate for families, intended parents and people to have access to fertility treatment and improve fertility services across the country.

We came together at the roundtable with experts including Dr Carole Gilling-Smith from The Agora Clinic Clinic, the British Fertility , people with lived experience, Fertility Europe, Hannah Bardell MP, Jess Brown-Fuller MP, Gavin Williamson , Progress Educational Trust (PET) and many others. We are asking for many things, including a National Fertility Strategy that is inclusive, equal and equitable for everyone that need support to create their families through fertility treatment. 🧬

Lots of work is happening behind the scenes and we are excited to share with you that we will be launching in November during National Fertility Week.

Fertility should not be treated as a cosmetic surgery - which it is often compared to - it should be treated as a medical condition. Heterosexual or q***r alike, all people should have the ability to create the family of their dreams. We will work incredibly hard and co-produce what that change will look like nationally for all those impacted and affected.
