Breaking bread with these beautiful people after hours of digging, weeding and sowing seeds is one thing, but learning that many of their friends are being diagnosed with high blood pressure in their 20’s and 30’s is heartbreaking 💔

What could be causing this? Systemic racism, we know is the No. 1 driver for health inequalities and stress among black and brown people, but what about climate anxiety, food insecurity, economic disadvantages- multiple levels of deprivation?

And so we’re lowering the point of entry into our Ital Community Drop- in Clinic and Plantain Programme: 👇🏾👇🏾

If you’re in your 20’s and above, we invite you to have your blood pressure checked in our gardens.

Drop in anytime between 12pm & 2pm Wednesdays & Sundays or stay on to garden with us for some physical excercise 💪🏾 🧡🪏

We are an Afrikan-diaspora-led garden space rooted in community, care, and collective wellbeing. But, our gates are open to all who move with the spirit of Ubuntu: “I am because we are.” 🧡

One moment you’re shovelling woodchip together, the next you’re sharing stories about home, learning about each other’s relationships with food, plants, and ancestry.

In the first photo, we represent roots and connections stretching across Japan, Jamaica, India, Trinidad & Tobago, and Germany. 🇯🇵 🇯🇲 🇮🇳 🇹🇹 🇩🇪

Different backgrounds, shared purpose 🌍
Come grow with us.

Our opens days are Sundays & Wednesdays

Sad reality. BLACHIR affirms systemic racism as the number 1 driver for health disparities within our Global Majority communities.

And our solution is to bridge clinical practice with community-led health care with models that work for our indigenous communities: alternative therapies, medicinal herbs and putting hands in soil to grow whole foods.

We’re also training up local residents to become their own detectors, interveners, and screeners of these conditions for preventative community health.

Weeds with purpose 🌿

Nettles are one of the many plants growing freely in our garden with real benefits, supporting circulation, reducing inflammation, and nourishing the body with essential minerals.

Relearning the value of these plants is part of reclaiming our relationship with the land and our health. The land is always speaking — we’re just learning how to listen again.

Thank you Famka , for the hand-drawn Neetle Art. We have a lot of nettles to harvest right now! 🌿

What some call weeds… we call medicine 🌼🌿

Dandelion is often overlooked, but its potassium content may help with reducing blood pressure. Some say it’s a natural diuretic as well.

Rich in vitamins A, C, and K, dandelion supports liver health, aids digestion, and helps the body detox naturally. Even the roots, leaves, and flowers carry healing properties.

This is what we mean when we say the land provides, if we know how to listen.

The gardens are currently bursting with dandelions. Come by to help with harvesting and take some home!

Health doesn’t happen in isolation 🌱✊🏾

We’ll be attending the Black Mental Health Conference, where the Coco Collective Health Equities Team will be offering blood pressure checks and speaking about our Plantain Programme.

🔗 Free entry via RSVP linked in bio as Black Mental Health Conference.

High blood pressure is not just about diet; it’s shaped by systemic stress, daily pressures, and the isolation many in our communities experience.

Because mental wellbeing and physical health are deeply connected…Through the garden, we create space to breathe, connect, and find calm through collective activity and shared purpose.

The weather tried it… but we didn’t stop 🌦️🌱

Giving thanks to the young ones who responded to our family day call-out and sowed Jamaican cucumbers, beetroot, sweetcorn, French beans, and a variety of tomato seeds.

Whilst the adults were fixing the canopy, some sowing seeds, turning soil, building out flower beds, and breathing new life into the space.

This week, we’re proud to be part of Good to Grow Week by 🌍
✨ Our highlight days:
