An Oxford chemistry graduate, she began as a scientist before transitioning to senior roles at EY, UBS, and Barclays.

- Vaughan GETHING, has become the first Black head of government in Wales, in the United Kingdom, and in all of Europe.

-/The 50 year old Zambian-born lawyer, a
lifelong Labour Party member, was elected Wales First Minister (Prime Minister of Wales) by the Welsh Parliament in Cardiff.

Wales, with a population of 3 million is one of the 4 UK countries (England, Scotland and Northern Ireland) that run local services, like health and education, under a devolved government system, with London responsible for defense, foreign affairs etc.

- Gething was born in Zambia to a Zambian mother and white Welsh father. He was raised in Dorset, England, before going to university in Wales. He was previously Welsh health minister for five years, including during COVID-19. Since 2021, he had been Wales' economy minister.

- Gething's election means 3 of the U.K.'s 4 countries, England, Wales and Scotland now have non-white leaders - . England's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is Indian descent, and Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf has Pakistani heritage. The 4th, Northern Ireland, is led by two women - First time no white men are heading government any of the four U.K. countries.

- LENNOX LEWIS MBE, CBE, is a former professional boxer from 1989 to 2003.
- He is a three time world heavyweight Champion and the last undisputed Heavyweight champion of the world.
- He is considered the greatest British boxer of all time and one of greatest boxers ever.
- As a dual British-Canadian he represented Canada as an amateur at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics, winning gold as Super heavyweight champion in 1988.
- In his first three years as a professional Lewis won British, European and Commonwealth heavyweight titles. He became WBC heavyweight champion in 1992. In 1999 he became undisputed heavyweight champion when he unified his WBC title by defeating Evander Holyfield for his WBA and IBF titles, and the vacant WBO title. He retired from boxing in 2004 after his last fight against Vitali Klitschko.
- Lewis is best remembered for his two fights against Evander Holyfield in 1999 and for defeating Mike Tyson in 2002.
- In his 44 fight career he had 41 wins, 2 losses and a draw, including 32 wins by knockout.
- In retirement he became a football commentator from 2006 to 2010. He also opened the Lennox Lewis Foundation.

- EDWARD ENNINFUL, the Ghanaian-British editor-in-chief of British Vogue, has been voted the UK’s most Influential Black Person by Powerlist. In its 18th edition, Powerlist, celebrates Black role models to young people in business, science, technology and the arts.

- The 51-year-old Enninful, who started his editorial career as fashion director of British youth culture magazine i-D aged 18, making him the youngest person to be named an editor at a major international fashion title, announced he was stepping down as editor of British Vogue in June 2024. He will become Vogue’s global creative and cultural adviser, as well as editorial adviser at British Vogue. He is also European Editorial Director of parent Conde Nast.

- Powelist says that Enninful was voted for "His vision and passion for fashion and diversity that has influenced the industry at a global level. Edward’s impact will be felt for generations to come and for that, I applaud him."

DAME SHARON WHITE, LADY CHOTE, DBE is a British businesswoman and distinguished civil servant. She is the current Chair of the John Lewis Partnership, having previously held a variety of roles in the Civil Service.

- Born in East London to Jamaican immigrant parents, Dame White studied Economics at Cambridge University and her Masters from the London School of Economics.

- She joined the civil service in 1989 working at 10 Downing Street (in Blair government), the World Bank, Department of International Development, Ministry of Justice and Department of Work and Pensions.

- She spent two years (2013 to 2015) as the second permanent secretary at HM Treasury, the first Black person and the second woman, to hold the position.

- Dame White also worked at the British Embassy in Washington. She became the chief executive of the British media / telecoms regulator Ofcom from 2015 to 2019.

- In 2019 she was appointed Chairperson of the John Lewis Partnership (High street chain / Waitrose Supermarket).

- She recently announced that she will be stepping down from that role at the end of her 5 year term in 2025, following a difficult post pandemic / cost of living crisis trading period.

- She was appointed Dame Commander of the British Empire (DBE) for public service in the 2020 New Year's Honours list.

- AARON LYNCH, Netflix's Senior Manager in Global Creative Marketing, won the Black British Business Person of the Year 2023 at the recent Black British Business Awards (BBBA).

- Mr. Lynch, in his role at Netflix has been instrumental in the launch of rebooted shows including Top Boy and Black Mirror franchises. He has over 12 years' experience working in scripted and non-scripted content across BBC One, BBC Three, Channel 4 and now Netflix.

- The night's other big winner was George Imafidon MBE, the 26 year old CEO of STEM-focused recruitment platform Motivez, helping to secure opportunities in the industry for young people from diverse backgrounds, who won the Entrepreneur Rising Star award.

- Other winners included an Extreme E-racing engineer and a leading fashion creative for ASOS.

- The annual BBBA’s, in its 10th anniversary held at the Intercontinental Hotel, Park Lane, London, celebrates black excellence in expansive industries including business, arts, media, STEM and finance,with thirteen categories.

-Fintech entrepreneur Valerie Moran is the sole black woman in the top 1,000 people of the The Sunday Times' annual Rich List, which ranks Britain's super-wealthy.

Moran, who was born in Zimbabwe, is jointly worth an estimated £122 million ($148 million) alongside her husband, Noel, ranking them as the joint 970th richest people in Britain (2019).

- The couple hold an 81.5% stake in their fintech organization, Prepaid Financial Services, which specializes in financial technology. Moran herself holds a 16.3% share of the company.

- Moran currently acts as head of client relations and operations. She was previously the organization's implementation project manager and its first official employee when it was founded in 2008.

- A qualified systems analyst by profession, in Zimbabwe she first started working in property and later with a to***co company.

- She moved to London around 2003, prompted by a recession in Zimbabwe, and worked in insurance before moving into fintech, starting the payments business, Prepaid Financial Services (PFS), with her husband Noel in 2007 from the kitchen table.

- She told the interview platform, IdeaMensch, in 2018 that her typical working day lasts for up to 15 hours from 9 a.m. until midnight.

- She also named communication as one of her finest qualities as an entrepreneur. "I never stop listening, learning, and taking on board feedback and comments from my staff and employees," she said.

STRIVE MASIYIWA, the Zimbabwean telecoms tycoon, who lives in London, has become the first black billionaire to break into The Sunday Times Rich List 2023 with his wealth estimated to be £1.087 billion.

Masiyiwa, 60, a father of six also serves on the boards of Netflix and Unilever.

He fled civil unrest in Zimbabwe at the age of seven and later waged a five-year battle against Robert Mugabe’s regime to launch his business.

Masiyiwa returned to his native Zimbabwe in 1984 after a 17-year absence. After working briefly as a telecoms engineer for the state-owned telephone company, he quit his job and set up his own company with the equivalent of US$75.

Masiyiwa overcame protracted government opposition to launch mobile phone network Econet Wireless Zimbabwe in his country of birth in 1998.

He now owns just over 50% of the publicly-traded Econet Wireless Zimbabwe (part of his larger Econet Group) .

The group’s subsidiaries include Econet Mobile Networks Group, Liquid Telecom, Cassava SmarTech, Distributed Power Africa, Vaya Africa and Technites Africa.

Econet Wireless has 2,304 employees and is ranked 5th among its top 10 competitors.

Masiyiwa also owns just over half of the private company Liquid Telecom, which provides fiber optic and satellite services to telecom firms across Africa.

He and his wife Tsitsi founded the Higherlife Foundation, which supports orphaned and poor children in southern Africa.

He played a key role in procuring Covid vaccines for Africa during the pandemic.
