The Cambria Society aims to revive a local pub focussed on cultivating the quintessential pub environment, but also function as a communal space for the diverse locality. The pub boasts a beautiful, spacious bar, beer garden and a large function room upstairs that could be utilised in a variety of ways - think live music, comedy nights, community cinema, exhibitions, education – really anything th
e community needs! We are keen to hear your ideas for use of the space, so please comment your suggestions below. Currently, our aim is to raise sufficient funds within the community to lease the Cambria through grant funding, loans, and donations. We are also aiming to include the community in the ownership of the pub, through community shares. A community pub is controlled by the community, for the benefit of the community. The share offer is a key way in which the community can become members, having a say through a vote at an annual general meeting (AGM) and steering the direction of the pub in a democratic fashion. A pub is a vital hub within a community; it is a meeting place, communication centre and an important backbone of local life. We have recently lost many of the pubs in the immediate area of Loughborough Junction, and we would like to bring some life back to the local neighbourhood. Having seen a growing number of community groups emerging in Loughborough Junction over recent years, we feel a community pub would provide a boost to that trajectory - building a stronger community post-pandemic and providing the amenities to help it thrive.
