Two-thirds of UK news articles about wildfires this summer haven’t mentioned climate change

Two-thirds (65.4%) of articles in UK national newspapers that referenced wildfires this summer amid record-breaking temperatures and a lack of rainfall failed to mention climate change.

That is according to media analysis conducted by the non-profit Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), which also found that just 2.9% of articles referring to wildfires or climate change also mentioned “net zero.”

Analysis from the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit adds to concerns that national newspapers are failing to link this summer's extreme weather to climate change and the net-zero policies necessary to mitigate its drastic effects.
