Think it's hot now? The next five years will smash records, UN says

In the next five years, the Earth is overwhelmingly likely to surge again and again past the international climate threshold set as safe and shatter its hottest-year record along the way, according to new United Nations climate projections.

Solar Energy Saves Europeans $135 Million A Day

You would think the fighting in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz would be sending the price of oil and methane for power plants in Europe soaring, and cause the price people and businesses pay for electricity to increase. You would be right, except for one thing.

Europe has installed lots and lots of solar power in the last few years, and that solar power is saving Europeans more than $135 million a day, according to Solar Power Europe.

Solar power is surging in Europe, saving consumers billions on their utility bills just so far this year alone.

Cooking Champions in 2025: “creating long-term, sustainable impact and empowering people to feed themselves and their families”

Cooking Champions have published their annual report for 2025, outlining in words and figures the achievements of the Enfield-based charity over the course of the year.

Cooking Champions, which began in 2020 as a small-scale service providing meals for people stranded at home during lockdown, is now an established operation, dispatching food parcels to people unable to afford sufficient food, inviting people to dine at its centre at a church in Ponders End, running cooking lessons for young and old, and more

What happens when the world’s breadbaskets start failing simultaneously?

Agriculture today is a massive, globally interconnected industry. That interconnectivity has brought jobs and varied foods to people who might not otherwise be able to access them.
However, like many other industries today, agriculture is dependent on a small number of key regions that support a vast network.

Multiple breadbasket failures are becoming more likely as climate change increases the chance of simultaneous stress across major producing regions. The danger is no longer only a bad harvest in one place. It is the possibility that several of the regions the world depends on for staple crops could come under pressure at once.

The modern food system was built on the expectation that geography would spread out the risks from droughts and floods. Climate change is testing all of that at once.

How overexploitation of sand is threatening ecosystems and livelihoods

Found on beaches, in rivers, across deserts and on the seabed, sand has long been seen as abundant and virtually inexhaustible. But it has become the world's second most exploited natural resource after water, and scientists warn rising demand will cause "enormous environmental damage".

IPCC’s conservative nature masks true scale of action needed to avert catastrophic climate change

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) synthesis report recently landed with an authoritative thump, giving voice to hundreds of scientists endeavouring to understand the unfolding calamity of global heating.

What’s changed since the last one in 2014? Well, we’ve dumped an additional third of a trillion tonnes of CO₂ into the atmosphere, primarily from burning fossil fuels. While world leaders promised to cut global emissions, they have presided over a 5% rise.
