The Muslim Community Association (MCA) successfully hosted a timely and impactful panel discussion titled “Understanding Contemporary Challenges and the Impact of Islamophobia and Our Roles”, bringing together community leaders, researchers, and stakeholders to address one of the most pressing social issues affecting Muslim communities in the United Kingdom.
The session was chaired by MCA Justice Secretary Mohammad Monowar Hossen, who guided the discussion and facilitated meaningful dialogue among the panel and attendees. The panel featured distinguished speakers, Researcher on Islamophobia Mr. Yusuf Faruque, MCA General Secretary Nurul Matin Chowdhury and MCA Executive Director Dilowar Hossain Khan.
The panel explored the contemporary forms of Islamophobia, highlighting how misinformation, stereotypes, and media narratives continue to influence public perception. Speakers also addressed the real-life impact on individuals and communities, particularly among young people navigating identity and belonging. The discussion emphasised the importance of collective responsibility, calling for stronger community engagement, education, and institutional accountability.
Monowar Hossen, Chair of the Panel, said, “This panel was not only about recognising the challenges of Islamophobia, but about encouraging collective responsibility. Meaningful change requires action at every level, from individuals to institutions. We must continue to create spaces for dialogue, understanding, and collaboration.”
Yusuf Faruque said; “Islamophobia today is shaped significantly by narratives whether in media, policy discussions, or online spaces. Addressing it requires both critical awareness and a commitment to challenging misinformation with evidence and informed dialogue.”
Nurul Matin Chowdhury said, “Community cohesion is built through understanding and mutual respect. We must invest in education and engagement that brings people together, rather than allowing fear or misunderstanding to divide us.”
Dilowar Hossain Khan said; “Organisations have a crucial role in setting standards of inclusion and fairness. Tackling Islamophobia requires not only awareness but practical action through policies, partnerships, participation and consistent leadership.”
