Congratulations to all our members for making it possible for us to be the overall winners of the Powys Brecknock Federation Annual Show which was held on Saturday 11thApril in Brecon .
We were awarded the Federation salver and Pauline Salmon on behalf of Llangynidr WI also received the Margery Davies award for the most points in cookery, craft and floral.
It was a wonderful day despite and early stressful start with some technical issues to our Rosebowl display on the theme of circles . rings and all things round which we managed to overcome . The theme we chose was based on the Olympic Rings.
There were so many excellent entries and for us in Llangynidr WI an achievement as this is the first time we have won since 2011 so high expectations for next year .
Well done to all entrants

Had our mini show last night
Our members produced a good selection of entries including ginger cakes, pencil graphite drawings, covered boxes , lemon curd, various craft and knitting projects and even gluten free vegetarian sausage rolls but the best entry I believe was the floral display in a child’s wellington boot from Gill Langford well done .The entries were judged by two members of the Bwlch WI. Winning entries from each category will go forward to the county annual show on 11th April in Brecon.

At our February meeting we had the pleasure of having a talk by Jodie Buck about her Bio Char products where she transforms natural farm waste into powerful biochar which enriches the soil. Our members have now got a project using Jodie’s products to grow their plants/flowers/veg and they will be judged during the summer to see who has achieved the best in show. Photos will be taken
Thanks again Jodie for inspiring us to grow more naturally and best of luck with your business.

We haven’t managed to publish much recently but I hope we will be able to create some interesting posts and welcome you to our meetings and events in 2026
In December 2025 we had a coach trip to Hereford and were joined by our friends from Bwlth WI, we had a tour of the cathedral its museum to see the Mapa Mundi and the chained library . Obviously we managed to find lovely places for lunch and relaxation.
WI Christmas is never the same without a Christmas lunch which this year we had at the Castle Hotel Brecon and it was fun with a tasty meal plenty of chat, wine and impromptu carol singing and free raffle.
January started off with our first meeting where we had the pleasure to have a talk and demonstration by Jane Evan’s on wet felting and this may prompt a a workshop day with Jane .
This year once again we have a varied selection of talks and events which will be posted and hopefully something of interest for all
