This week we were at the Anglesey Show — a brilliant chance to meet our community and show what we do.

We also caught up with partner services and providers, opening doors for joint training and new tools.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 RAF Valley Families Day 🎟️ 7th August 2026

We had a fantastic day at RAF Valley, enjoying the sunshine and the lovely breeze across the airfield. We were very pleased to find ourselves in a prime spot for the flying display. Our thanks go to the base for hosting us, and to the public who took the time to speak with us.

We welcome any opportunity to share information about what we do, and how we do it. If you’ve got an event coming up, we’d love to get involved!

Wednesday training ⛑️ Hyfforddiant Dydd Mercher

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 This week, the team were out on Holyhead Mountain practicing map navigation. We use MX digital mapping on exercises and for live incidents, but it’s only as good as battery life and signal! Having traditional map skills ensures the team won’t get caught out when technology doesn’t perform at its best.

Sunday training ⛑️ Hyfforddiant dydd Sul

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Yesterday the team were out practicing search techniques in Newborough Forest and across the surrounding dunes. Bright daylight and fair weather made for far easier conditions than we’re used to in the wild Welsh elements.

The sunshine brought plenty of people (and dogs!) to the beach, so here’s your friendly safety reminder:
🌤️ Take plenty of fresh water
🌤️ Wear suncream (UVA/UVB)
🌤️ DO NOT light fires or BBQs - take a picnic instead.
🌤️ Safely dispose of litter and ci******es
🌤️ Be mindful of cold water shock
🌤️ Swim in lifeguarded areas

Do you have a loved one living with dementia and worry that they may go missing?

Have you heard of The Herbert Protocol?

The initiative is named after George Herbert; he was a war veteran who had dementia, and sadly died while he was missing on his way to his childhood home.

It consists of a form that contains vital information about a person at risk that can be passed to the police if that person is reported missing. A recent photograph of the person should also be kept with the form.

It’s designed to help carers of people living with dementia and to ensure, if the person goes missing, that police can quickly gain access to relevant information.

Nine lives have been lost in water-related incidents across North Wales since March. Behind every number is a family, friends and a community whose lives have been changed forever and our thoughts are with all those involved.

In response, North Wales Police brought together partners from across the region to strengthen our shared commitment to preventing further tragedies. The meeting focused on improving collaboration, sharing expertise and identifying practical measures to enhance prevention, education and public awareness.

While many organisations are already working hard to promote water safety, by bringing partners together we can strengthen our collective approach.

As many people continue to enjoy North Wales’s beautiful coastline, lakes and rivers during the warmer weather, agencies are asking everyone to be aware that water can present risks at any time of the year. Even places that appear calm can have hidden hazards, including cold water, strong currents and sudden changes in depth.

If you are planning to spend time in, on or around the water, please take a moment to think about your safety and the safety of those with you. Planning ahead, knowing the conditions and looking out for one another can make a real difference.

If you unexpectedly enter cold water, follow the RNLI advice ➡️ https://orlo.uk/7LF7H; lean back, keep your ears submerged and try to relax and control your breathing until you can call for help or swim to safety.

We want everyone to enjoy everything North Wales has to offer and return home safely so we are encouraging both residents and visitors to make safety a priority whenever they're enjoying the outdoors and to take a moment to think about how they can reduce the risks.

Whether you're walking in the mountains, spending time on the coast, or visiting lakes and rivers, conditions can change quickly. Take time to plan ahead, check the weather and tide information, make sure you have the right equipment, and be realistic about your experience and abilities. Around water, be aware of the risks posed by strong currents and cold water shock and always keep a close eye on children.

Everyone has a personal responsibility to make sensible decisions and look after themselves and those around them. By taking a few simple precautions, we can all help prevent avoidable incidents and ensure everyone can enjoy North Wales safely throughout the summer.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Eight members of the MônSAR team completed the Rescue 3 Europe Slope Rescue Operator course this weekend. Our immense thanks to the instructors from Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue for their time, experience, and thorough delivery.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn the theory of safe rescue systems, develop key technical skills, and strengthen the relationship between our teams.

Next step: applying the techniques in training scenarios to sharpen our capability and build experience.

A reminder of how we can minimise the risk of fires starting during this dry spell 🥵
🪵 No campfires
🧺 No BBQ’s - take a picnic
🚯 Do not litter - glass in particular is a fire risk
🚬 Ensure cigarette butts are fully extinguished
🚬 Do not discard ci******es in the grass/plants
👂 Listen to advice, follow safety instructions

Update 16:30pm 🚒
Firefighters remain at the scene of fires at the Rhinogydd mountains near Cwm Bychan Lake close to Harlech, in Pentrefelin, Holyhead and on the mountain above Capelulo near Sychnant Pass.

We are also currently in attendance at a fire in the open on Hope Mountain and in Brynford, near Holywell.

We're receiving reports of controlled burning taking place across the region. Given the current dry conditions and heightened wildfire risk, we are urging landowners and members of the public to refrain from carrying out any controlled burns at this time. Fires can spread rapidly and place people, property, wildlife and emergency responders at significant risk.

Members of the public are asked to avoid affected areas, allowing emergency crews to work safely and ensuring access for operational vehicles.

If you are affected by smoke, please shelter indoors and keep windows and doors closed. Please follow Public Health Wales for further advice.

We continue to use a range of firefighting tactics at each incident. Aerial support is also being considered - as a result of the difficult terrain and limited access available, at the Rhinogydd mountains near Cwm Bychan North Wales Fire and Rescue Service requested aerial support through Natural Resources Wales (NRW) last week. While the request was approved, helicopter support from approved providers is not currently available due to demand from wildfire incidents elsewhere across the UK. Any operator used by Natural Resources Wales for wildfire response must meet specific operational, safety and assurance requirements.

Jami Jennings, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Chair of the Tactical Coordination Group, said:

“We would like to reassure the local community that the situation at these locations continues to be closely managed.

“There is currently no indication that residents will need to leave their homes. Firefighters remain in close contact with those affected and are working with partner agencies to ensure appropriate support is available if required.

“I’d like to re-iterate my thanks to our firefighters control staff and volunteer groups, as well as local residents and businesses for their support and patience.

“We continue to meet regularly with partner organisations to help keep our communities safe.”
