The FODW volunteers met on Monday for our monthly play date in the woods!

🌳 We planted out more wildflowers in the stone circle and identified some others growing
🌳 We fixed some broken steps and the Ogre got some fresh new eyes 👀
🌳 We also did a bit of vegetation clearing

Our next Deri day is July 20th

It was our 'Deri Woods play day' on Monday and whilst numbers were low and the weather wasn't great we completed a few tasks.

🌳We planted another 100 or so wildflower plant plugs in the stone circle
🌳 We cleared low hanging vegetation particularly along the Goat Field riverside path and top path
🌳 We also cleared vegetation around the new bench on the flight of steps nearest the town

Our next workday will be Monday 15 June

There were fewer than usual of us on Mondays Deri day but we managed to complete the following:

🌳Checked all nest boxes.

🌳Planted around 200 new wildflower plants in the stone circle meadow. These were grown from seed by two of our volunteers: seed and compost bought from our own resources, so no cost to LCTC.

🌳Replaced a broken step on the path above the headwalls. Two further steps will be replaced on this diagonal path next month.

🌳Started work on ‘rustic-log’ edging on the diagonal path in Deri Woods using beech logs from February’s workday thinning.

Our next workday will be 18th May.

At the workday on Monday we:

🌳Checked that the two headwalls that we built last year were functioning properly and raked leaves and debris from the stone backfill
🌳Replaced three sleeper steps near the ogre
🌳Replaced a step on the flight up to the Taliesin sculpture
🌳Did a litter pick across the whole site
🌳Put up a repaired bird box
🌳Made improvements to the access for some bird boxes
🌳Thinned out the agreed two conifers in Compartment 2b
🌳Moved suitable sized logs from where we thinned out the beech last month to a point where we could reuse them for path edging
🌳Took delivery of a small quantity of timber from B&Boden and carried it to the tool store

With regard to the litter pick, it was probably three years or more since we last did this, only a small amount was found (about 2 carrier bags worth). We take this as a sign that locals and visitors are treating the woods with the respect it deserves. After a bit of a hiccup in the last couple of months, dog owners are also being responsible.🥳🥳🥳

Our next workday is scheduled for 20 April, when, amongst other tasks, we will be adding to the stone circle meadow some of the plants that the volunteers have grown from seed.

*** POLITE NOTICE ***

Llanfair Caereinion Town Council wishes to remind dog walkers in Deri Woods that there are dog poo bags provided at the two main entrances at each end and that there are litter bins to put them in when used in that location as well.
Please do not just leave it or indeed leave the dog poo bag alongside the paths for others to pick up. Thank you for your co-operation.

Regards,
Robert Robinson Town Clerk
