Householder that has oil heating please read !!+
A new scheme offering eligible households a £100 voucher towards the cost of home heating oil will open for applications on 9 September, Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has announced.

Around 340,000 households are expected to be eligible for the application-only scheme, with a maximum of one voucher available per household.

The Northern Ireland Executive announced plans for the £36.4 million support scheme in April as part of measures aimed at helping households deal with increased living costs following the conflict in the Middle East.

Mr Lyons said: “I am making this advance announcement to help eligible people get ready to make their application.

“My officials have worked at pace to put in place a fair and robust system to help hard-pressed families and individuals who are struggling to meet heating oil costs.

“I would encourage anyone who may be eligible, or those assisting them, to review the eligibility criteria online and ensure they are ready to submit an application when the scheme opens.”

The Department for Communities said eligibility will extend to households where oil is used as the main source of heating and certain financial criteria are met.

The department said: “One voucher per address will be payable where applicants use oil as their main source of heating and receive a qualifying income-related benefit, or a disability benefit, or have an annual income for single people or couples of less than £30,000 after allowable deductions. ”

Applications will open on 9 September and the scheme will remain open until 31 March 2027.

The department has warned that applications must be submitted within this period in order to be considered.

Further information, including details of the eligibility criteria and application process, is available through the Oil Support Scheme section of NI Direct.

People requiring assistance with their application will also be able to seek support from staff across the Jobs and Benefits network or by calling 0800 072 0266 from 9 September.

The department said it is also working with representatives from the home heating oil industry and organisations providing advice and support to ensure additional assistance is available to those who need it.
