There are parking restrictions this week at the north end of Commercial Street in Lerwick. Specialist teams from Historic Environment Scotland are working on the rock face on the east side of Fort Charlotte.

Barriers and parking restrictions are in place to ensure the safety of the public and a safe working area for these teams. We expect the work to be completed later this week. Thanks to drivers and pedestrians for their cooperation.

Our great town is shortlisted and could be hosting, promoting and creating cultural events and projects in 2028. As part of the funding bid we are all invited to fill in an initial survey. The link is in this article.

Folk in Shetland are being encouraged to help shape Lerwick’s bid to be the UK’s first ever town of culture.

Lerwick is one of just 15 towns shortlisted from nearly 400 applicants, with the Lerwick 28 bid being launched today.

If successful, Lerwick would receive £3 million to deliver a major cultural programme in 2028, with six towns competing in the small town category.
