Another cracking morning at Leamington Memory Café 🧡

The theme of today's session was Autumn across the world, with a focus on different festivals that happen across the globe 🌍

Did you know 🧐

- The Mid-Autumn festival is celebrated in September in China, when it is believed that the moon is brightest and fullest 🌕

- Diwali is is the Hindu festival of lights, with variations celebrated in other Indian religions such as Jainism and Sikhism, and is celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar months of Ashvin (according to the amanta tradition) and Kārtika – between around mid-October and mid-November 🪔

- Hallowe'en was originally a Celtic festival, originating in Ireland 🇮🇪👻

We did a fun quiz about all this and more, and then later we got competitive with apple bobbing, as well as making some cute paper craft pumpkins to exercise everyone's fine motor skills. 🎃

Last but not at all least our colleague Beth performed Tarot readings for our guests and staff! ✨

Wow, what an interesting and informative morning this week at Leamington Memory Café! 🧡

Today we welcomed Judith from Warwick and Leamington Beekeepers, who presented a fascinating talk about all things honey and bees 🐝

We learned tons of interesting facts about how bees live and behave, and how honey is made by them 🍯 here are some of our favourites:

- Honey bees perform what's called a "waggle dance" to advertise nearby sources of pollen to other bees in the hive 💃

- A Queen Bee can lay up to 2000 eggs per day! 😅

- Depending on the source of pollen, the honey that bees produce can vary enormously in colour and taste 😋

Following the talk Judith brought a range of local honey for everyone to try and we saw that variety in action 🧡

We also got stuck in to some craft activities, making honey bee decorations and bird feeders using pine cones 🌲

As you can see we're still really pushing that cosy Autumn vibe!!! 🍁

We had a brilliant musical session this morning at Leamington Spa memory Cafe, singing songs for health and the mind led by the wonderful Fiona on her guitar 🎶

Scientists have found that music activates almost every area in the brain simultaneously, including the hippocampus and amygdala, which activate emotional responses to music through memory 🧠

So as you can imagine, as a memory cafe, music is really central to what we do - but it's also just a great excuse to get together, have fun and have a little boogie as you can see 🕺

It wouldn't be one of our sessions if some of our more competitive guests didn't get to flex that particular muscle so we finished off with a game of playing card bingo - see the triumphant winner below! 👌

It was so heart-warming to see everyone relaxing and having a sing and dance! 💕 See you next week folks!

🎶 Singing for Health and Mind

Music, and singing in particular, has been shown to boost brain activity and therefore plays an important part in slowing the progress of dementia.

Music evokes emotions that bring memories, emotional and physical closeness.

Singing is engaging and can shift mood, manage stress and stimulate positive interactions. ❤️

We look forward to sharing a lovely morning of music, singing and memories together! 🎶

Hello from the Leamington memory cafe team 👋

This week we were feeling the cosy vibes and doing some autumn crafts 🍂 making bonfire pictures by blowing paint and then decorating them with foraged twigs to create the finished articles.

It was amazing to see how different everyone’s contributions were and how creative people got. 🎨🖌️🫟

In this spirit we gave awards for “most creative”, “most relaxing” and “most realistic” amongst others - have a look and we’re sure you’ll agree that everyone’s out their own stamp on the results 🔥

We also warmed up through the chilly weather with some Love To Move 💪 a really fun morning! ✨

🚒 Tuesday 6th October – Fire Service Visit
We’ll be welcoming our local Fire Service for a special visit. Come along, meet the team and have a chat. We’ll also enjoy a lovely seasonal craft together. 🍂

🎶 Tuesday 13th October – Singing for the Brain
Join Fiona for a morning of familiar music, memories and singing together. Music has a wonderful way of bringing back memories, encouraging conversation and putting a smile on our faces! ❤️🎵

🐝 Tuesday 20th October – Birds & Bees Nature Session
Join Judith for a fascinating morning learning all about bees. 🐝🌿 She’ll be going into more detail about these amazing little creatures and sharing lots of interesting facts about their lives and the important role they play in nature.

🌍 Tuesday 27th October – Traditions Around the World
We’ll discover interesting traditions and customs from around the world, followed by a fun themed craft. 🌎✈️🎨

And, of course, every session includes our usual favourites — refreshments, quizzes, bingo and Love to Move seated exercises. ☕🎲🧠💃

Whether you’re living with memory loss or dementia, supporting someone, or simply looking for a friendly and welcoming place to spend a Tuesday morning, we’d love to see you. 🥰

A lovely laid-back morning at the Leamington Spa Memory Cafe today, where we learned learned about and participated in activities about mindfulness, self-care and relaxation. These are all things that we can benefit from, no matter where we are in our life’s journey and self-care can mean many things depending on who you are and what works for you ✨

Today we started the session with chilling out doing some mindfulness colouring sheets while we did a fun quiz about different aspects of self care and relaxation, then we moved into doing different craft activities and making lavender bags 💜 this also ties into dementia awareness month with purple being the colour for dementia awareness.

However, the big draw of the morning was our hand massage clinic - Lucie and Lynne were on, ahem, hand to provide our guests with a lovely relaxing hand massage which people absolutely loved (well done guys!) 👏

All in all a relaxed, slower-paced morning where people got to know one another better, had chats, bonded and improved their own well being - that’s self care if ever we saw it 💕 see you next week folks!

Another fab morning at Leamington Spa Memory Café today ✨

It was National Fitness Day last week so we decided to have a morning themed around fitness and good health 💪

Kicking off the morning with a quiz about fitness, health, and ways we can look after our bodies, we then moved into a brilliant seated exercise session led by Beth, which got everyone warmed up and ready for what was to follow…✨

We then moved to playing some games like cup pong, ringtoss, checkers and bean bag toss, getting everyone to put their energy to good use (and maybe win some choccy in the process…)

A brilliant morning with something for everyone and great vibes as usual 😍 thanks so much to all who came!

💜 A little look at what we got up to at our Memory Café this Tuesday! 💜

Our morning was full of colour, creativity, conversation and smiles as we got busy making our very own “Share the Love” cards. 💌✨

There were lots of lovely colours, patterns and personal touches, with everyone creating something special to give to someone they love or simply brighten their day. 🥰

It was lovely to see everyone chatting, helping each other and enjoying the simple pleasure of being creative together. 💕

We finished our session with Love to Move, getting everyone moving, singing and having fun together. 🎶💃🕺

Thank you to everyone who joined us — you helped make it another lovely morning at our Memory Café. 🌸

✈️ Travel, memories, laughter & a little friendly competition! 💛

We had a lovely, chatty morning at Leamington Memory Café yesterday, talking about our favourite ways to travel, sharing holiday memories and looking through old holiday brochures and memorabilia. 🌍🧳

After a fun group quiz, we made paper aeroplanes and put them to the test, trying to land them near Cubbington Airport! ✈️ There was plenty of laughter and definitely some competitive spirits!

We finished with a short Love to Move session and our favourite “piano fingers” routine. 🎹🧠

The piano fingers are one of the trickier movements, requiring concentration, coordination and a good bit of brain power! Watching everyone’s progress as they master these intricate finger movements is just wonderful to see. ❤️

Another lovely morning of memories, connection, laughter and fun! 💕
