Small but Mighty! There may only be a few of us, but we work really well together. Today the team worked all day at the loch. We weeded the beds at the loch entrance, mixed in feed, then put down new compost. We will top them up with more once this lot has settled. Then we planted both beds with lots of different types of plants to add colour to the area. We also weeded and topped up the soil in the round planter, then planted it up with antirrhinum and dwarf stock. We will put in some plants at the planters next to the loch later.

Gavin, Dicky and Valerie were out with Gary, Mick and the boys from CCI this morning. We tidied up the planters at the railway station and put in a few new plants. The planters at the bus station look lovely but there’s not a single litter bin in the place. I picked up an empty plastic bottle that had been left in a planter!

Lovely morning at the compound today. Valerie & Gavin put out the hanging baskets at Morrison’s this morning, then Dicky and Gavin put out the ones at the roundabout. Meanwhile, Valerie, Margaret and Maureen planted peas, beans, leeks, spring onion, radish, beetroot and turnip. It’s all go at the moment. Some of us will be out with the boys from CCI at the railway station tomorrow.

A wet day at the compound today. Gavin and Dicky managed to put out the railing planters at the roundabout and Valerios. Maureen, Valerie and Lisa planted up 10 hanging baskets for the corner at Morrisons. We hope to get the hanging baskets out on Monday. Margaret planted out carrots and parsley . We are using our old planters for herbs etc. We hope to get leeks, onions and possibly beetroot planted soon.
We will be out with the team from CCI on Tuesday to do some work at the railway station.

Our wonderful “Golden Girls” were out at St Teiling this week tidying up the planters. Looking great ladies.

Some good work at the roundabout today. We were busy tidying up the tiered planters and flower beds, before we put up the hanging baskets and railing planters for Lanimers. We are not planting up the beds at the moment as we intend to dig them out and put in completely new compost in a few weeks. Afterwards we were back at the compound watering everything, which is a big job in this weather.

Our greenhouse has been repaired thanks to the kindness of a gentleman from Crossford named Scott. He kindly fitted the new glass and gave us some spares.
Thanks to everyone who offered to help. It is much appreciated.

Another good day at the compound today. The ladies planted up the remaining hanging baskets and railing planters for the roundabout, leaving us with the ones for Valerios to do next time. We just need some warmer weather to bring everything on. Gavin and Dicky prepared some of our old square tubs to use for growing vegetables for the food bank.

As most people know, we are a very small group who try to make the town look nice, especially for Lanimers. It was really disheartening therefore, to discover our compound had been vandalized on Friday night. Huge pieces of stone had been thrown through our polytunnel, causing large holes and a pane of glass was smashed in the greenhouse, showering our lettuces and plants in glass! There is absolutely no sense or reason for someone to travel all the way out to Langloch Farm to do this. It’s been hard enough to keep our plants alive in the cold weather we’ve been having, without something like this happening. Gavin and Dicky managed to patch up the holes in the polytunnel, but we will have to buy glass to replace the broken pane in the greenhouse.
On a more pleasant note, Maureen, Lisa and Valerie have planted up many of the hanging baskets for the roundabout. We will be back out on Wednesday to finish them and start on the railing planters.

Another busy day today. We did some more potting on, moved things into our greenhouse and started trying out ideas for our hanging baskets and railing planters. We’d really like to get things out for Lanimers this year again, but the weather needs to get a lot warmer for our plants to grow. We do have a number of strawberries on our plants though, so fingers crossed we get a good crop this year.
