Our first crop of veg for the food bank was looking really good today. We are donating 27 lbs of potatoes, leeks, spring onion, green beans, beetroot and turnips. We were given a marrow and turnips from a kind lady who has a veg box at CCI as well. Still plenty of veg to come.

The team got a bit wet at the compound today, but still managed to fill lots of bags with riddled compost from one of our compost bins. It’s looking really good quality.
Everything is growing well in the veg beds. Our leeks and spring onions are looking really good and our corn looks about ready. This was a trial to see if we could grow corn at the compound. Next year we aim to plant a full bed of corn. The tomatoes are coming along well too.

Lanark in Bloom would like to thank Stuart and the team from Silverbirch Garden Centre for their kind donation of wooden tables. With a little bit of tlc, they will be perfect for our plants and hanging baskets. It is so nice to have the support of local businesses.

We were busy last week w**ding at the loch and planting a few more flowers in the beds. Gavin and Dicky took the bowser out and watered the loch, Morrison’s etc. Thankfully we have had a little rain so the hanging baskets and planters are doing quite well. Maureen has done a power of work w**ding at the compound and we planted more salad veg in an empty bed.

Another productive morning for the team today. We started off at the roundabout with some volunteers from CCI. We planted the beds with begonias, antirrhinums and marigolds. Although some of the begonias are small at the moment, they should take off over the next couple of weeks and add lots of colour to the roundabout. It was great working with CCI and again shows how much more we can get done with just a few extra bodies.
Afterwards Gavin and Dicky went round with the water bowser and watered the roundabout, hanging baskets and railing planters. They are planning to go back out later in the week, but may not need to if the rain that’s forecast comes.
Valerie, Lisa, Margaret and Maureen went back up to the compound and watered the tomatoes etc. We also tackled the never ending job of w**ding and tidying the compound. We still have some more plants to put in at the loch later.

LIB wishes to say a heartfelt “thank you” to Walter and his wonderful volunteers from Castlebank Park Horticulture Centre, for all their help today at St Kentigern’s roundabout. This was a great example of two local groups working together for the good of the town. Having a decent number of people made very short work of what had been a big job for the LIB team. It just makes you realise what we could achieve if we had a few more volunteers.
Afterwards a couple of us visited the horticulture Centre to buy a few plants for the beds at the roundabout. They have a lovely selection of plants for sale.
The team will be back at the roundabout on Monday with a small group from CCI, to plant up the beds now they’ve been filled with new compost.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the team. Last week we did a lot of tidying up at the compound. The “Golden Girls” were out working at the braes and we were out early morning / late evening with the water bowser watering the hanging baskets and planters.
Today the team started our big job at the roundabout. We are w**ding and emptying the planters. We will lift all our bulbs and clear out most of the old compost, put down w**d suppressant and fill with new compost. We will then put in the saved bulbs and plant up with begonias etc.
We have made the decision to dig out the rose bushes that were planted for the late Queen’s Jubilee. They’ve never really been happy in the planters. We will give them some tlc and replant them in a different area.
We will be back out at the roundabout on Thursday. I’m delighted to say that we will be joined by Walter and some of his lovely volunteers from Castlebank Park, who have kindly offered to help us with this huge task.

The team were out in the town on Monday. Lisa, Margaret and Valerie planted the tiered planters with fuschias and some bocopa. Dicky and Gavin took the bowser round all the hanging baskets and filled their reservoirs in case we get another dry spell while some of the team are on holiday. The girls also planted up the pots under the hanging baskets at Morrison’s, as well as the planters in front of the store. The railing planters are all coming along nicely. The heavy work at the roundabout will start in a few weeks, so there’s not much point planting anything at the moment.
Maureen was busy w**ding out at the compound and making sure our tomato plants were fed and watered. All our veg beds are looking great too.

Small but Mighty! There may only be a few of us, but we work really well together. Today the team worked all day at the loch. We w**ded the beds at the loch entrance, mixed in feed, then put down new compost. We will top them up with more once this lot has settled. Then we planted both beds with lots of different types of plants to add colour to the area. We also w**ded and topped up the soil in the round planter, then planted it up with antirrhinum and dwarf stock. We will put in some plants at the planters next to the loch later.

Gavin, Dicky and Valerie were out with Gary, Mick and the boys from CCI this morning. We tidied up the planters at the railway station and put in a few new plants. The planters at the bus station look lovely but there’s not a single litter bin in the place. I picked up an empty plastic bottle that had been left in a planter!
