A lovely day in the woods with the Wild Rumpus team!

A day of learning, thinking and getting stuck into how we can build a shared understanding of regenerative practice, and what it could look like across everything we do.

Led by the brilliant Liz from Liz Postlethwaite - Permaculture Educator we explored permaculture design principles, looking at how we can work more thoughtfully with people, place and the natural systems around us.

🌟 VOLUNTEER WITH US AT YULETIDE 🌟

Join us for Yuletide, our winter festival at Tatton Park!

We’ve got all sorts of wonderful volunteering opportunities throughout November and December...

✨ Join our build team, helping to transform Tatton Park Gardens into a magical wonderland
✨ Put your prop-making skills to use, or learn how to make large-scale festival decor
✨ Become a member of our front-of-house team, welcoming guests to Yuletide and providing on-the-night support

All of our volunteers will gain behind-the-scenes experience in producing large-scale outdoor arts events, as well as a ticket to enjoy Yuletide on your chosen night!

Flaming Suns: Large-scale Willow Workshop 🌞🌞🌞

Would you like to get hands-on with sustainable festival decor making?
Join Stella and Ruth for a FREE two-day workshop at the Wild Rumpus Design Barn, where you’ll learn how to transform willow and other natural materials into large-scale, weatherproof festival decorations!

Over the weekend, you will gain practical, hands-on experience in:

🌱 Using willow as a material to build structures
🌱 Preparing and applying weatherproofing wax
🌱 Cutting and assembling waxed materials
🌱 Using twine to thread and secure materials
As industry leaders in sustainable practice, we will share insight into the sustainable methods and materials we use to bring our festival creations to life.

Experienced makers and beginners welcome.

We will keep you fuelled throughout the day by providing lunch & hot drinks.

🌱 Rowan is heading to the Sustainable Events Summit!

Our Artistic Director & CEO, Rowan Cannon, will be joining the ‘Best of the Summer Panel’, hosted by John Rostron of the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF).

The panel brings together UK outdoor festival organisers who have been leading the way in sustainable events across the 2026 season, sharing green success stories, lessons learned and ideas for a more sustainable future for festivals.

Rowan will be joined by Bryonie Mathews of Shambala Festival & Kendal Calling and Emma Beat of The Beat Goes On Festival.

There’s something rather lovely about a jumper that’s already lived a life!

This year, we couldn’t quite bring ourselves to make lots of new Just So Festival merchandise, so we went looking instead. For months we’ve been hunting down second-hand T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts and woolly jumpers, choosing each one by hand before giving it a fresh chapter with our Just So screen prints.

Every single piece is different. Some are wonderfully faded, some are beautifully soft, and each has its own little quirks. We like to think they’ve already had a few adventures, and now they’re ready for a few more.

We’ve also made embroidered patches, perfect for stitching onto a favourite jacket, backpack or pair of dungarees that’s been with you through years of festivals.

It feels like a small thing, but it matters to us. Finding joy in what’s already here. Making things slowly. Choosing character over perfection. Creating keepsakes that you’ll want to wear long after Just So Festival!

Research day in Rumpi World!!

Today we brought together the wonderful characters who inhabit Rumpi World for a day of exploration in the woods. We spent time developing their personalities, relationships and habits, discovering how each character moves through the world and what stories they have to tell.

We also walked the grounds of Rode Hall, considering how each corner of the space might shape an encounter, spark a conversation and become the setting for a moment of wonder.

So much of Just So Festival is built through this process of collaboration and play. Before a single audience member arrives, we’re already imagining the conversations, discoveries and unexpected moments that will unfold across the weekend.

Last week, the Wild Rumpus team disappeared into the archives of Manchester Museum Manchester Museum for a beautiful morning spent with the inspiring curators, uncovering countless hidden wonders, from iridescent blue bees and 1.2kg fallen meteorites to a medieval boat discovered in Manchester Ship Canal and a curious collection of eggs.

Every room was lined with cabinets, drawers and cupboards brimming with stories, each one waiting to be told. We’re gathering whispers, following curious threads and dreaming up something new, watch this space...

Pop a pin in your diary - we’re hosting our final Volunteer Day of summer 2026 and we’d love to see you there! Come and spend some time in nature, get involved with an outdoor project, and meet some local friends. Equipment, cups of tea and cake provided. Just bring something for lunch. Everyone welcome!
