This Volunteer’s Week we are sharing stories of the projects we work with, today we meet Lottie who volunteers at Triangle Church Top Up Shop, to find out a little bit more about what she does and what she enjoys about it.

If you have a Suffolk Food based volunteer story, why not tag us to see if we can add then to this week’s sharing as well?

This week is an important time to celebrate VOLUNTEERS and their contributions to local communities. Volunteers play a significant role in supporting ActivLives inclusive programmes and services across Ipswich and Suffolk. If you know anyone who volunteers, leave a thank you message in our comment section and let's celebrate together Volunteers' Week!

Excitingly, applications for the Bupa Foundation Green Community Grants are now open šŸ“¢šŸ’š

Green Community Grants exist to make a meaningful impact in local communities, and in partnership with Bupa Foundation, we want to help you make a real difference in your local area.

If you have a project that could ensure happier and healthier communities and help make places and spaces greener, you can apply for funding of up to £2,000.

Whether it’s tree planting to improve air quality and biodiversity, improving green spaces for community activities to boost wellbeing, or creating an allotment for a community group, Green Community Grants can help you transform your local green spaces into thriving community assets.

The programme is open to non-fee-paying schools, registered charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK, Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands. For full eligibility and application prioritisation criteria and how to apply, please visit the webpage.

Applications close Tuesday 30 June 2026.

Happy Volunteer’s Week!

On a recent visit to Bridge Community Church, we were discussing what to do with some potatoes that hadn’t been taken and eaten…

And I was also reminded of the story of the man who was gifted a fish and the man who was gifted a rod and taught to fish… so join me for my potato stories…

Extra game… how many times did I say ā€˜potato’ during this?

Once you get something growing, there are many chances to split or duplicate the plants to get even more plants.

more plants = more food

Taking a clean pair of scissors and a bottle, pot, vase of water, we can root an off cut!

And if you don’t have the space to grow more tomatoes, why not gift a plant to someone else? You’ve got a parent, you can share your growing stories, and, someone else can grow some food too!
