The founder of Rotary was an American Lawyer, Paul Harris, who in 1905 invited a group of friends in Chicago to form a club; within a short time a weekly lunch meeting became the pattern. the meeting place was changed in rotation. hence the name Rotary. In 1954 a group of men in Huntly resolved to form a Rotary club. What was this organisation to which they wished Huntly to belong? Rotary has many

definitions, but the shortest is that it is 'a world fellowship business and professional people united in the idea of service'.
