As part of Volunteers' Week, we wanted to take a moment to recognise and thank the incredible volunteers who make so much of our work possible.

Whether it's packing food parcels, delivering food to families, serving hot meals, supporting community events, helping behind the scenes, or simply giving up their time to support others, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.

Over the past year, they have collectively given hundreds of hours in service to the people of . Their commitment, compassion and willingness to help others continue to make a real difference in our community.

As a small token of our appreciation, yesterday we brought our volunteers together for a meal and presented each of them with a small gift to thank them for their dedication and service.

We know that many of our volunteers were unable to join us yesterday due to work, family commitments and other responsibilities. We want you to know that our gratitude extends to you just as much.

No charity can thrive without volunteers, and we are truly grateful for every single person who has chosen to be part of the Huddersfield Community First family.

Thank you for your time. Thank you for your energy. Thank you for your kindness. Most importantly, thank you for helping us serve, empower and uplift.

A huge thank you to Huddersfield Parish Church for hosting our Sacred Neighbours: An Afternoon of Welcome at the Church event.

Special thanks to Revd Canon Rachel Firth, Revd Wayne, the volunteers, and everyone involved behind the scenes for your warm hospitality and generosity throughout the afternoon. You made everyone feel genuinely welcome.

Thank you as well to all those who attended, contributed to the conversations, and helped create such a positive and respectful atmosphere. It was encouraging to see people from different backgrounds coming together to listen, learn and connect with one another.

Events like these are incredibly important. At a time when division and misunderstanding can easily grow, opportunities to meet, talk and build relationships across communities matter more than ever. They remind us that despite our differences, we can live together peacefully, respectfully and with a shared sense of community.

We hope this is the start of many more conversations and collaborations that continue strengthening the bonds across Huddersfield.

We warmly invite everyone to a special opportunity to bring our communities closer together.

This is a space to step into somewhere new, meet new people, and build real understanding. If you’ve never been inside a church before, or you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the Christian community in a relaxed and welcoming environment, this is for you.

Moments like this are how bridges are built and communities grow stronger.

Refreshments will be available for everyone, so feel free to come along and bring family or friends with you.

This week marks six months since we launched our Food Hub with a simple aim: to support people in our community facing hardship, and to do it with dignity.

In that short time, the impact has been powerful. Week after week, families have been able to access essential food based on what they actually need. We’ve supported dozens of households, reduced waste through a choice-based system, and built something that puts respect and care at the centre of everything we do. None of this would be possible without the commitment of our volunteers, who continue to give their time and energy to help others.

But alongside that, there’s a reality we can’t ignore. Our long-term hope is that one day, we won’t need to exist at all.

Because in a country like ours, it shouldn’t be the case that people rely on food banks just to get by. Until that changes, we’ll keep doing what we can, supporting our neighbours and standing with those who need it most.
