Join us for a journey through some of the Holme Valley’s most evocatively named landscapes. At over 1,000 feet above sea level, much of this circular walk feels closer to the heavens than the countryside below as we travel from Elysium to Hades — and back again.

Our route winds along forestry tracks through a landscape of contrasts, moving between light and shadow as we pass derelict hill farms, silent conifer plantations, and dense ranks of trees standing like upright sardines. Along the way we'll encounter the distinctive, Italy-shaped Holme Styes Reservoir and enjoy sweeping views across to Castle Hill and the rolling landscape of Hade Edge below.

Expect dramatic scenery, hidden corners of the valley, plenty of fresh air, and great conversation as we explore this fascinating upland route together.

⚠️ Please note — this walk includes uneven ground, forestry tracks, and some climbs. Suitable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are strongly recommended.

This one starts out feeling deep in the wild borderlands of Pen*stone — but as the landscape opens up, familiar landmarks begin to emerge. From Castle Hill to Cheese Gate Nab and the distant Meltham hills, this walk offers some of the finest panoramic views around.

Our 3-mile route keeps to higher ground for much of the journey, giving us the chance to take in the striking contrasts of the local landscape — sweeping lowland fields on one side, heather-covered hills on the other — alongside traces of the area’s rich industrial past hidden beside the footpaths.

Expect big skies, open countryside, good conversation, and plenty of opportunities to pause and soak it all in.

Walk 50 takes us back into the wilds for a proper moorland adventure. Although only a stone’s throw from Meltham, this route feels a world away — with sweeping views, rugged landscapes, and the occasional chuckle of wandering grouse echoing across the hills.

Our 2.5-mile circular walk explores high moorland, peat bogs, exposed rocky outcrops, and a stretch of the iconic Pennine Way, offering a true taste of hill-walking in the Holme Valley.

Expect fresh air, good company, and that unbeatable feeling of being out in the elements together.

⚠️ Please note — this is hill country! The terrain can be uneven, boggy, and steep in places, so come prepared with suitable footwear and clothing, and check in with your fitness before joining.

This week we’re swapping town noise for rustling leaves and woodland calm on a 2.5-mile circular route that flits from wood to wood to wood — each with its own mood and texture.

It’s a gentle stroll, perfect for breathing deep and soaking up those health-giving aeronutrients that trees are famous for (yes, that’s a real thing — and we’ll take any excuse to get more of them!).

Expect good company, easy chat, and that grounding sense of peace that comes from being out among the trees.
