🔥 Bear ESU took their culinary skills outdoors at Hitch Wood for a brilliant Ready Steady Cook challenge, all cooked over open fires! 🍳

With only what was available to hand, creativity and teamwork were very much on the menu. We hope it tasted as good as it sounds! 😄

🎾 16th Hitchin Scouts enjoyed a brilliant tennis taster session, picking up a brand new sport as part of their Skills Challenge!

From first swings to rallies, it looks like there may be a few future Wimbledon champions in the making! 🏆

🧠 Phoenix Explorers dedicated a session to Mental Health Awareness Week and the pressures of exam season. 💙

The evening covered all things wellbeing and stress, before ending in the most brilliant way possible. Human skateboards. Because sometimes the best medicine is just having a good laugh with your friends! 🛹😄

🌳 108 Trees and Counting!

When Pete, our brilliant Cubs Leader at 6th Hitchin, organised a visit to he had no idea just how much of an impact his Cubs and their families would make.

6th Hitchin Cubs and their families threw themselves into planting saplings with such enthusiasm that they planted a whopping 108 trees! 🌱

Chloe from Wilds Farm had a brilliant way of showing the Cubs exactly how to bed the saplings into the ground firmly and let's just say it involved some very enthusiastic astronaut and ballerina impressions from everyone involved! 🚀🩰

Chloe was so impressed she got in touch personally to pass on her thanks and to let us know that the final count was even higher than she first thought!

🧭 Hitchin District Cubs Hit the Trails!

Over 160 Cubs from across Hitchin District recently laced up their boots and took their leaders on a track around Wymondley and further afield for the District Cub Hike and what a brilliant day it was! 🥾

As well as taking on the great outdoors, our Cubs got to grips with some essential navigation skills, learning how to plot co-ordinates and use a compass to find their way. Real skills, real countryside and a real sense of adventure! 🗺️

A huge thank you to everyone who helped coordinate and organise these events, including some brilliant new faces stepping up to make it all happen. You have done an incredible job and we cannot wait to see what comes next. 💙

✈️ 12th Hitchin Cubs Take to the Skies at Shuttleworth!

12th Hitchin Cubs recently visited the incredible Shuttleworth Collection as part of their Air Activities Stage 2 Badge and what an experience it was! 🛩️

From learning about airfield safety to exploring the fascinating forces involved in flight, our Cubs soaked up a wealth of knowledge surrounded by some truly extraordinary aircraft. With so much history and so many incredible planes to discover, there was something to fascinate everyone!

It is one thing to read about how planes fly. It is quite another to stand next to the real thing and understand the science behind it.

Our Cubs left with heads full of knowledge and imaginations well and truly fired up. 🌟

Who knows, we may have a few future pilots in our midst! 👨‍✈️

💙 Scouting Beyond the Group!

Hitchin District Scout Instructors headed to Stanborough to support the Lonsdale School alongside the Hertfordshire Sports Disability Foundation, helping to deliver an incredible day for all involved.

This is Scouting at its very best. Our volunteers do not just give their time to their own groups. They take their skills, their energy and their enthusiasm out into the wider community, making a difference wherever they can.

A huge thank you to our brilliant instructors for representing Hitchin District Scouts so wonderfully and to the Hertfordshire Sports Disability Foundation for the incredible work they do. 🙏

🦆 12th Hitchin Cubs Go Pond Dipping in Willian!

12th Hitchin Cubs recently headed out to Willian for a brilliant pond dipping session as part of their Our World Challenge Badge and what a session it turned out to be! 🌿

From discovering the fascinating creatures living beneath the surface to learning about the incredible ecosystem right on their doorstep, our Cubs threw themselves into every moment with brilliant curiosity and enthusiasm.

And the highlight of the day? Unearthing a huge empty freshwater mussel shell! 🐚 Not bad for a day out in Hertfordshire!

This is exactly what Skills for Life looks like. Young people connecting with nature, asking questions and discovering that the natural world is far more extraordinary than they ever imagined.

🌍 Quiz Night for a Great Cause!

8 young people from Hitchin are heading to the 26th World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027 as part of the UK Contingent and they need your help to get there! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚜️

Join them for a brilliant Quiz Night fundraiser and help make their once in a lifetime adventure possible!

🔥 Sausages, Fire and Fresh Air with 3rd Hitchin!

There is something truly special about cooking your own food over an open fire and 3rd Hitchin recently did exactly that, heading outdoors for a brilliant fire lighting and cooking session! 🌲

With water buckets and beaters at the ready, fire safety was front and centre throughout. And those beaters? Leather straps stapled to wooden handles, handmade by the Scouts themselves. Practical, resourceful and totally Scouting! 🛠️
Once the fires were going there was only one thing left to do. Cook the sausages and enjoy every single bite. 🌭😄

Skills for Life, fresh air and full bellies. Does it get any better?
