We love to see our Brownies and Guides having fun and adventures together, making new friends and challenging themselves to do things they didn't think they could. We had a great weekend away with other local units celebrating the 100th World Thinking Day

💬 This week, a Guide said something that made us laugh… and then stop and think.

“I used to think leaders didn’t have jobs or social lives.
I thought Guides is what gave you meaning in life.”

There was no cheekiness in it at all — just pure, honest curiosity.

And that’s actually something really special.

It means she felt comfortable enough to say exactly what she was thinking.
To ask the question out loud.
To be herself.

That’s the kind of environment we work hard to create in Guides.

Of course, our leaders do have jobs, families, friends and busy lives.
And they still choose to turn up, week after week.

So consistently, in fact, that to a young person it looks like:
“This must really matter.”

And it does.

Because Guides isn’t just about activities or badges - it’s about safe spaces, trusted adults, and knowing your voice is welcome.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it’s also a lovely moment to say thank you to the incredible volunteers who give their time, energy and enthusiasm to make spaces like this possible.

(Also for clarity: leaders don’t live at the meeting place… though some cupboards may suggest otherwise.)

💙 Making a real difference doesn’t always look big or loud - sometimes it sounds like a child feeling safe enough to ask anything.

This!! 💛💙

💙✨ THE REAL LEADER PROMISE

(A brutally accurate, lovingly chaotic, and completely relatable)

I promise that I will do my best…
😂 To look calm and organised even when three girls are singing, two are arguing about who invented biscuits, and one is wearing a bin bag as a cape.
😂 To pretend I definitely planned tonight’s activity and did not improvise the last 20 minutes using only pipe cleaners and hope.
😂 To locate missing neckers, water bottles, and the occasional child using nothing but instinct and leader telepathy.
😂 To answer questions such as:
— “Can sharks blink?”
— “Can I marry my cat?”
— “Why does the moon follow me?”
…with grace, wisdom, and a completely straight face.
😂 To accept that glitter is permanent, craft glue is immortal, and the lost-property box is now my second home.
😂 To keep smiling when the phrase “We didn’t do it!” is shouted before anything has actually happened.
😂 To stay patient, even when someone insists they don’t need the toilet… right before we leave the building.
😂 To survive camp on 4 hours of sleep, 1 biscuit, and pure enthusiasm.
😂 To remember that “five more minutes” in Guiding time actually means “half an hour and possibly a spontaneous talent show.”

And most importantly…
💙 To show every girl that she matters, she’s capable, she’s brilliant — and that the world is better when she’s in it.
(Even if she’s currently tangled in the parachute.)

This is our promise.
Our chaos.
Our joy.
Our Guiding life.
And honestly?
We wouldn’t change a single ridiculous, wonderful moment.

💙✨ Tag a leader who lives this promise every week!

THANK YOU 🙏

Thank you to the 72 children and young people from Girl Guiding Angmering, East Preston Junior School, Georgian Gardens Community School, St Margaret’s CofE School and The Angmering School, who gave up some of their day to tell us what they like in their community and what we should be providing for them.

The hard work starts now in collaboration with East Preston and Rustington Parish Council's to plan what we can deliver in the future !

🌟 Shoutout to Our Incredible Girlguiding Volunteers! 🌟

Behind every adventure, badge, burnt marshmallow, spontaneous sing-off, and “Wait… where did she go?” moment, there’s a volunteer making the magic happen. 💙✨

This week, we’re raising a HUGE cheer for the leaders, helpers, young leaders, commissioners, kitchen heroes, camp ninjas, spreadsheet champions, uniform-finders, badge-sew-on-ers, and every brilliant human who keeps our girls safe, smiling, and supported.

And let’s be honest…
Some of you don’t just volunteer.
You battle printer jams, wrestle tents, negotiate with glitter, and complete risk assessments with the precision of a top-secret agent.

Because when you finally submit that risk assessment and feel like you’ve just secured the safety of the entire nation…
💪😌 Your move, MI5.

To every volunteer making guiding happen:
Thank you for your time, your energy, your humour, your patience, your love for our girls — and yes — your legendary risk assessments.
You are the heart of guiding.
You make memories that last a lifetime.
And you do it all with a smile (and sometimes a slightly wild look, but we get it).

💙 We see you. We appreciate you. We couldn’t do it without you.

Happy International Volunteer day!

Tag a volunteer who deserves a shoutout today! 👇💬

✨ Are all Girlguiding units the same?
Nope.
If you’ve met more than one, you already know this.

✔️Some units are outdoorsy and can put up a tent in three seconds flat.
✔️Some craft so hard their leaders will be vacuuming glitter until the end of time.
✔️Some are powered entirely by biscuits and chaotic enthusiasm.
✔️Some do every badge under the sun.
✔️Some do one badge… very passionately… over snacks.

Why?
Because Girlguiding is girl-led.
Girls choose what they want to do — and girls don’t all want the same thing.
(Shocking, we know.)

✨ But what about Scouting? Aren’t they the same as us?
Also no.

We’re like friendly cousins:
• We both love adventures
• We both lose at least one sock at camp
• We both believe young people can do amazing things

But we are not identical — and that’s not a competition, it’s a bonus.
Different doesn’t mean “better” or “worse.”
It just means families and young people get to choose the place that feels right for them.

⭐️Some kids want the programme that looks like Guiding.
⭐️Some want the programme that looks like Scouting.
⭐️Some just want whoever provides the best biscuits — and honestly, we respect that.

In a world that tries to rank everything, we’d rather celebrate that there’s room for everyone. 💙

Here’s to differences.
Here’s to choice.
Here’s to every young person finding their perfect “home in muddy boots.”
