During DofE, students are encouraged to think independently,
make decisions, and work together to overcome
challenges. Whether planning activities, organising
equipment, managing their time, or supporting one
another in team tasks, students learn how to approach
situations calmly and find practical solutions.

These experiences help students build ๐’“๐’†๐’”๐’Š๐’๐’Š๐’†๐’๐’„๐’†,
๐’„๐’๐’๐’‡๐’Š๐’…๐’†๐’๐’„๐’†, and ๐’‚๐’…๐’‚๐’‘๐’•๐’‚๐’ƒ๐’Š๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’š, showing them that problem
solving is not just used in lessons such as maths and
science, but in everyday life as well. The Duke of
Edinburgh Award allows students to develop these skills
beyond the classroom, helping them become more
independent, resourceful, and prepared for future

๐ŸŒž๐Ÿฅพ Butser Hill Adventure! ๐ŸŒฟ

Just before half term, our Eco Skills and Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Discovery Day groups joined forces for an exciting trip to Butser Hill, the highest point on the South Downs. After enjoying a sunny picnic lunch at Queen Elizabeth Country Park โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŽ, everyone took on the challenge of the hill climb, showing fantastic determination and teamwork ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘.

Along the way, we explored the areaโ€™s fascinating history, learning how a shallow tropical sea once covered southern England and created the chalk landscapes we see today ๐ŸŒŠ. We also spotted beautiful chalk grassland wildflowers ๐ŸŒธ and were treated to the wonderful sight and sound of skylarks performing their display flights high above us ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŽถ.

Although we didnโ€™t quite reach the summit, our descent brought a special surprise when some curious Exmoor ponies came over to investigate ๐Ÿดโค๏ธ. It was a memorable day filled with learning, adventure, wildlife, and fun for everyone involved! ๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ก Last week, our school came together for a fantastic Big Switch-Off event as part of our commitment to sustainability and climate action. For 90 minutes, pupils and staff switched off all non-essential electrical equipment and embraced a different way of learning.

๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“… Despite the rainy weather, pupils enthusiastically worked on creative projects that will feature in our exciting new 2027 school calendar, with proceeds supporting a future in-school eco project. We were especially proud to hear pupils discussing how they could reduce energy use at home too! ๐ŸŒฑ
