BBC Complaint - Lack of Climate & Nature Crisis Coverage
Are you happy with the BBC's coverage? If not, please submit a complaint. You can simply use the text below, edit or write your own 🙂.
By repeatedly failing to reflect the seriousness and urgency of the climate and nature crisis and inform the public, the BBC has not met the obligations of the Communications Act 2003. It has been totally disproportionate in comparison with the much less serious pandemic. This has contributed to a damaging split in the political consensus and the rise of disinformation.
BBC News has failed to report on many key events including The Big One, Restore Nature Now, the withheld Nature Security report, the released redacted Nature Security report and most notably the National Emergency Briefing.
The consequences of this failure has been reflected in some BBC programmes. For example, on the special Question Time episode exploring the challenges of growing up in the 21st century (half the audience was under 30 or gen Z) there was no mention of the Climate and Nature Crisis. There was one brief mention of Net Zero from a member of the audience, but it was dismissed because it was off topic. Also, there was a question about the 'climate catastrophe' on another episode. However, the discussion went rapidly downhill with so much disinformation, denialism and ignorance.
Similarly, on one Any Questions episode one of the questions was about Net Zero which gave rise to examples of disinformation from members of the panel. On Any Answers only one caller was selected to share her thoughts on that question at the very end of the programme. The caller was 70 year old grandmother Fiona, an environmental activist who had been arrested for her cause. She was making some excellent points, but they cut her off because they had run out of time!
There was a question on climate change on another episode. Fortunately, Caroline Lucas was on the panel and was able to counter all the usual disinformation, but she was cut short before she could go into details of the withheld Nature Security report. On Any Answers there wasn’t time for even one caller to discuss the topic.
The BBC must do more. (1996 characters – appears to be the maximum allowed)

It would be good if everyone in the environmental community submitted a complaint. It may help with the push for a public National Emergency Briefing 🤔 - we won't know unless we try 😏
Please share widely 🙏
