The nature reserve trustees are in talks with the District Council with the aim of taking over the treatment of the small areas of Japanese Knotweed on the site. We are therefore looking for a local contractor who has up to date certification for Knotweed management. Can anybody help us?

It's World Bee Day today and so good to see ten pre-school children enjoying our story-telling area, bee spotting and learning about them. Our nature reserve is one of their favourite places to visit so we hope to see you all again very soon.

Today we welcomed a visit from Councillors Anthony Williams and Adeel Shah who came to see our 10th Anniversary Tree. Together with Councillor Richard Millard, they had funded the project to prepare the site and plant the tree, a Magnolia Grandiflora 'Exmouth', chosen for its large, fragrant white flowers, which are a popular, nectar-rich foraging spot for honey bees and bumblebees. A plaque has been put in place to celebrate 10 years of our work on the nature reserve and to thank the funders. More shrubs and trees will be planted nearby in the autumn. We hope the tree will bring pleasure to all our visitors over many years to come.

Work should be starting today (Thursday 12 March) on preparing the area for planting our Tenth Anniversary Tree beside the heather at the Maple Way end of the nature reserve. Please be aware that a digger will be on site for a while and take care, especially if you are walking dogs.

Lots of signs of spring today. Tree number 8 is one of the first to blossom in Erie Wood, together with the Almond trees in the Nuttery. The heather is looking good and we hope to be able to start work in March on the adjacent space ready for planting our Tenth Anniversary Tree.

Happy Christmas and good wishes for the New Year to all our nature reserve visitors and supporters. The trustees of our charity would also like to thank Headley Parish Council for an award to cover the nature reserve insurance costs next year, and our District Councillors and the East Hampshire Community Lottery for the funding to create a Tenth Anniversary Tree area in the early spring. Hope to see you soon.
