Wildflowers, Well-being, and a Whole Lot of Curry - The Big Do 2026!

It is amazing what can be achieved by 40+ people in just a few hours.

In the Community Garden:
Planting 150 wildflowers plug plants from Keep Wales Tidy
Weatherproofing the garden fence with paint
Weeding vegetable and flower patch
Clearing out the shed and tidying up

Indoors:
15 letters written to be sent on to individuals feeling lonely or isolated in our community
Kindness badges made, arts and crafts created and help with exhibition boards for a local history project.
And a huge curry lunch cooked for everyone who attended.

The feedback we had from the event was so uplifting with volunteers sharing how they felt about the day.

‘It was a real tonic’
‘I found the letter writing particularly therapeutic.’
‘Thanks for inviting us to your Big Do - it was a smashing event.’
‘It was lovely to meet so many passionate individuals from a variety of volunteer organisations. I found the experience incredibly uplifting’.
‘Thank you again for such a meaningful experience.’
‘It was an enjoyable networking event, very well organised and welcoming.’

We could not have had such a successful event without the organisations who came along to provide the activities, the wonderful hosting of The Centre, and of course all the enthusiastic volunteers.

A Big Thank You to everyone!

Wow! What a week that was, if you missed here were a few of the things that happened…

We helped 2 local organisations – The VC Gallery and POINT Youth centre – celebrate their volunteers and processed over 100 certificates for volunteers who had totalled over 25,600 hours of volunteering between them.

Some volunteers received their 10, 50 or 100 hour certificates, all the way up to 2000 hours.

We held our ‘Big Do’ in Simpson cross with almost 50 people coming along to help out with a variety of volunteering activities – including planting 150 wildflowers! Everyone enjoyed the excellent curry lunch cooked by The VC Gallery Volunteers.

One of the other ways we also like to say a big ‘thank you’ to volunteers is through our annual Pembrokeshire Volunteering Awards, which was also launched at the Big Do.

The purpose of the awards is to recognise and celebrate the real difference volunteers make to communities in Pembrokeshire and to themselves.

The Awards are coordinated by PAVS (Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services) and kindly supported by South Hook LNG.

There are 7 different categories for individuals and groups, and for young volunteers (under 25) and older volunteers. The deadline to nominate is 28 September. Forms here https://padlet.com/volforpembs/celebrate

🌟 Have You Volunteered With The VC Gallery? 🌟

Then there may be a certificate waiting for you!

Every year we celebrate the incredible contribution our volunteers make to The VC Gallery and the wider community. From serving meals and supporting activities to driving minibuses, gardening, peer support, fundraising and everything in between, every hour makes a difference.

The year before last , Susan Williams proudly received recognition for an amazing 800 volunteer hours, and last year she reached an incredible 1,000 hours! 👏💙

If you’ve volunteered with us, we’d love you to join us at our Volunteer Awards Celebration during Volunteers’ Week. Come along, collect your certificate, cheer on fellow volunteers, enjoy a delicious buffet and be entertained by the fantastic Rock Choir.

Whether you’ve given 10 hours or 1,000, your time, kindness and commitment help make The VC Gallery the welcoming place it is.

🎶 Great music
🏆 Volunteer awards
🥪 Buffet refreshments
💙 Good company

We hope to see as many past and present volunteers as possible there to celebrate everything you’ve achieved together.
