Free Books Hatfield is now open on Sundays!

Initially for a trial period from tomorrow (23rd November 2025) up to and including 21st December 2025, we will be open for our usual hours of 11am until 4pm on Sundays.

If this proves successful, we will continue to open seven days a week in 2026.

*** We will be closed from Thursday 25th December 2025 until Thursday 1st January 2026 inclusive, reopening at 11am on Friday 2nd January 2026.

This will enable our volunteers to spend time with their families and also enable us to carry out maintenance and other tasks within the shop.

We thank you all for your support this year and look forward to seeing you in 2026!

Our Chair of Trustees

Our Chair of Trustees

As part of Trustees' Week, we caught up with Pedro, a young trustee and Chair of the Trustee Board for Free Books Hatfield. Here's what he told us:

"I first started out at Free Books Hatfield as a volunteer in June 2022 because I wanted to be involved in a local cause that benefited both people and the environment through their work.

Following regular volunteer shifts at the bookshop, I was appointed a trustee of the charity in August 2024, taking the position of Chair.

As a trustee, I help run the charity by arranging and supervising trial shifts, coordinating with volunteeers and my fellow trustees, liasing with the Charity Commission and other organisations, sending and replying to emails (there are lots!), being co-responsible for the charity's finances along with the Treasurer, ensuring the charity stays aligned with its aims, and most importantly, giving out free books to all our visitors!

Volunteering and trusteeship are both great ways to help out in the local community, and I would really encourage young people to get involved, because not only can it enhance your CV and increase your job prospects, but most importantly it is also something very enjoyable and rewarding."
