Action for A-T

Action for A-T Making a difference by increasing awareness & funds for medical research into Ataxia-Telangiectasia.

Action for A-T is a charity that was set up by two parents following their daughter being diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T). Our mission is simple: To speed up the process of identifying a cure for A-T or treatments that delay or prevent the disabling effects of this childhood condition.

Our lead patron Jonny Wilkinson will be representing Action for A-T and we will also be joined by two lovely A-T families. The day takes place on the 11th September at the BGC headquarters in Canary Wharf. Watch this space for more details.

We’re proud to share the results of our latest joint grant round with Action Medical Research.

This year, 31 outline applications were received, 22 were invited to submit full proposals, and 7 projects have now been awarded funding — signifying a new record investment of £1.6 million in vital A‑T research.

These awards were only possible thanks to the generous support of our donors and partner charities. Your commitment continues to drive progress for children and families affected by A‑T.

We’ll be sharing more details about each funded project in the coming weeks.

Wishing Jon Baker and his fellow riders every success today as they cycle to the South coast and back covering 100 miles. Jon was all set to join our Alps ride last month but Heathrow closed due to stormy weather and he was unable to fly to Geneva. Having already raised £1900 for A-T research, today’s ride will be the equivalent of riding the Col De Le Madeleine. Please join us in thanking Jon and wishing him and his fellow riders a safe ride.

🚨 New Research Update
We’ve just published details of our latest completed project and the findings are a major step forward.

Researchers at the University of Milan have uncovered a key reason why A‑T cells struggle to stay healthy: they can’t use glucose properly and build up excess glycogen, even in the brain and heart. The team also identified a specific protein, FNIP2, that acts as a brake on the cell’s energy production — and showed that reducing FNIP2 can restore healthier metabolism.

This discovery opens a promising new pathway toward future treatments.
