And last but certainly not least - meet Pepper! The final member of our Pets As Therapy dogs to introduce, Pepper is an 8 year old blue roan cocker spaniel who joined the team last August. She has already become a firm favourite with all of us The Princess Alexandra Hospital, bringing comfort and happiness to patients and staff during her visits.

When Pepper isn't hard at work spreading smiles, she can usually be found splashing through muddy walks and hedgerows. Luckily, her owner Liz says she's easy to spot thanks to her white-tipped tail!

A huge thank you to Liz for sharing Pepper with our hospital community - your visits brighten days, lift spirits and make a real difference to everyone you meet.

Follow us to hear more about Pepper and our other therapy dogs! 🐾🐾

This we’re recognising the incredible unpaid carers who support loved ones every single day.

At we work to make hospital experiences more comfortable and compassionate for patients, and for the family members and friends who are there alongside them. Your support helps us fund projects that make a real difference to both patients and the people who care for them.

Care doesn’t stop at the hospital door. Behind many patients is someone helping them get to appointments, managing day to day life, and offering emotional support through some of the most difficult moments.

These carers sometimes don’t see themselves as carers, and their role can go unseen, but it makes a huge difference.

If someone you know is caring for a loved one, take a moment this week to thank them and recognise all they do.

Say hello to Winnie, a 3 year old beagle cross with all the classic beagle traits. She can be a little stubborn and definitely loves her food, but she also has the most gentle and loving nature. With the right training, she has become a wonderful Pets As Therapy dog.

She enjoys long walks where she can follow her nose and explore everything around her. But her favourite thing, apart from eating, is snuggling under a blanket and cuddling up as close as possible to someone.

Winnie is still quite new to visiting The Princess Alexandra Hospital and has already completed around five visits. She has taken to it brilliantly so far and especially loves any patients or staff who might sneak her a biscuit or two.

A big thank you to Winnie and her owner Sophie for bringing comfort, smiles and a little bit of calm to our wards šŸ’™

This we’re shining a light on dementia and the small things that can make a big difference for patients living with the condition.

For someone with dementia, familiar activities, sensory items and comforting surroundings can help reduce anxiety, encourage connection and create moments of calm during a hospital stay. Simple items such as sensory resources, games, activity packs and comfort items can support memory, communication and overall wellbeing.

The sensory garden at The Princess Alexandra Hospital, funded by The Princess Alexandra Hospital Charity and NHS Charities Together, provides a peaceful outdoor space where patients, families and staff can spend time together, supporting wellbeing through sensory experiences, nature and meaningful moments of connection.

Through , you can help us continue to support patients living with dementia. If you’d like to get involved, you can purchase an item from our charity wish list: https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/38YIMD07B2XOR/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_3

A patient’s thank you turned into something that will support others.

After spending more than ten weeks on Fleming Ward at The Princess Alexandra Hospital, John Ley wanted to say thank you to the team who cared for him by making a £1,000 donation to The Princess Alexandra Hospital Charity.

Describing the team as a ā€œsource of strengthā€ during his time in hospital, John’s story is a powerful example of how patients and families choose to give back and show their appreciation for the care they receive šŸ’™

His donation will help us continue to support Fleming Ward by enhancing patient care, investing in specialist equipment and improving facilities for patients and their families.
