🌈 What an amazing first week of Pride Month! 🌈

In just one week, we’ve:

📚 Challenged a call to ‘scale down’ information and access to LGBTQIA+ books from our local libraries.
📖 Shown our support for our local library services and staff and the importance of inclusive spaces.
🎭 Supported an LGBTQIA+ themed theatre production and celebrated the power of q***r storytelling.
🎙️ Championed Harlow Pride on BBC Essex Radio News.
💜 Launched our new fundraising packs to help individuals, community groups and businesses raise funds for our Pride event this October. (DM us for the pack)

We’re incredibly proud of what our community can achieve when we come together to stand up for inclusion, visibility and equality.

As Pride Month continues, don’t forget to support and visit other local Pride events too. Every Pride is an opportunity to celebrate, connect and keep the joy going across our communities.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. We can’t wait to see what the rest of Pride Month brings!

🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈

🏳️‍🌈 Harlow Pride on the Radio!! 🏳️‍⚧️

On Wednesday 3rd June, representatives from Harlow Pride were interviewed on BBC Essex radio to discuss the recent decision to ‘tone down and scale back’ Pride displays and materials in some Essex libraries.

Libraries should be welcoming spaces for everyone in our communities. Pride displays are not about exclusion or politics – they are about visibility, education, support, and ensuring LGBTQIA+ people know they belong.

We were grateful for the opportunity to share why representation matters and to speak up for the many people across Harlow and Essex who value inclusive public spaces.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support equality, diversity, and inclusion in Harlow and beyond. Your voices matter, and together we will continue to champion a community where everyone feels seen, respected, and celebrated.
Our thanks to Harlow Library who did put up their planned Pride Display!

Review: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The Wayward Theatre Company ON Wednesday afternoon, we ran a piece on a new running group based out of Newhall. The thing we liked about them was their Gen Z vibe. This comes from an editor who ran his first race in 1971. Then he went down to see A […]

We’re going on a book hunt…
📖These books are available on library shelves right here in Essex, (we checked 😉) This is just a tiny section to inspire you what to search for.
📖We are not endorsing these specific books or recommending them for everyone.

📖We are celebrating libraries, access to information, and the freedom to choose what we read. Borrow one. Reserve one. Read one. Share one.
📖 If your local library doesn’t have it on the shelf, place a reservation and ask for it to be brought in. (If you’re concerned about reservation charges, check with your local library service first.)
📖Activism doesn’t always have to be loud. Sometimes it’s as simple as choosing to read a book, learn a new perspective, support a community, or show up for people whose stories deserve to be heard.

📖If you’re part of the Harlow and Essex LGBTQIA + community or an active ally, we’d love to see what you’re reading.
📖To continue our activism in an uplifting way on social media, we’re asking supporters to post on their own pages instead. Share a photo of your library book, tell people why you’re reading it, and tag us so we can celebrate with you.

📖Every borrowed book, every reservation, every reader sends a message
⚠️ Please take care when selecting reading material. The books featured in these photos are adult titles and may contain themes or content that are not suitable for everyone. Read reviews, check content warnings where available, and choose books that are right for you.

As Pride Month begins, Harlow Pride wants to reaffirm why visibility, inclusion and access to information matter.

Harlow Pride is deeply concerned by reports that Essex County Council may restrict access to LGBTQIA+ information and books within Essex libraries.
Public libraries exist to provide free access to knowledge, culture and information for everyone in our communities. LGBTQIA+ people are part of Essex, and literature and educational resources that reflect their lives, experiences and history have an important place on library shelves.
Removing or restricting access to information for the wider public risks excluding and marginalising LGBTQIA+ residents.
Libraries should remain welcoming, inclusive spaces that serve the whole community. We would encourage Essex County Council to engage openly with residents, library users and equality groups before making any decisions that could affect access to information.
-Harlow Pride

We stand for visibility, inclusion, equality and the freedom to access knowledge. LGBTQIA+ stories belong in our libraries, our communities and our future. Stay strong, stay hopeful, have courage, read books 📚

🌈 Hello Harlow Pride family! 🌈
It’s been a little while since our big Pride last October, and we’re so excited to be sharing what’s coming next.

We’re thrilled to introduce a theatre company who are holding auditions for a bold, LGBTQ+ reimagining of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream ✨
Auditions will be taking place 23rd & 25th February!!

Thet would absolutely love to hear from people in our community who are interested in:
🎭 Performing
🎶 Music
🎨 Theatre-making
🙌 Or volunteering front of house or backstage

Whether you’re an experienced actor or just curious and want to be part of something super special, this is a wonderful opportunity to get involved.

Harlow Pride is also busy arranging some lovely smaller events leading up to our Pride celebration in October, and we’re proud to be supporting local artists across the town along the way.

✨ Keep following us for more updates — there’s lots to come! ✨
