πŸ’‘ Did You Know? πŸ’‘

When someone is declared bankrupt, their existing Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) expires and must no longer be used for Self Assessment tax returns after that tax year.

Instead, they must register for Self Assessment again and use a new UTR issued by HMRC.

This process allows HMRC to keep pre-bankruptcy and post-bankruptcy tax affairs separate and helps ensure future tax returns are processed correctly.

It’s an important detail that is often overlooked and can cause delays or confusion if the old UTR continues to be used.

πŸš— Mileage Allowance Update πŸš—

The approved mileage rate has now increased to 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles, and this change has been backdated to 1 April 2026.

If your employer reimburses you at a lower rate, you may be able to claim tax relief on the difference directly from HMRC.

You can check eligibility and make a claim here:
https://www.gov.uk/tax-relief-for-employees/vehicles-you-use-for-work

It’s worth checking β€” many employees miss out on this relief each year.

Claiming tax relief on expenses you have to pay for your work, like uniforms, tools, travel and working from home costs.

Not finance related but certainly an important and ongoing issue in our community. Please share so it can reach as many ladies in the area as possible 🩷

Her safety, our priority!

If you're a female in Cleveland, tell us how safe you feel at home and in public spaces, in our new survey launching today.

Matt Storey has developed the short survey to understand how safe women and girls feel, what level of harassment they have experienced and what they think can be done to make them feel safer.

Your feedback will help identify hotspots and shape future work to make our communities safer for everyone.

πŸ—“οΈ The survey closes 30th June 2026.

Take part and make your voice heard:

*Later in the year, a similar exercise will be conducted to understand the feelings of safety in public spaces for men and boys.*

πŸ“ˆ As your church or charity grows, keeping track of finances becomes even more important. And having the right accounting software can make a huge difference.

The good news is that both Sage and Xero offer discounts for non-profit organisations, helping churches and charities access powerful accounting tools at a reduced cost.

From managing donations and expenses to improving reporting and making day-to-day bookkeeping easier, cloud accounting software can save time and help you stay organised as you grow.

If you’re unsure which software would suit your organisation best, we’d be happy to help point you in the right direction 😊
