Following on from the post a month or so ago showing the wildflower-seeded bunds on the approach to HRS, I pulled in today to take these photos showing the absolute triumph it has become. A spectacular success 💚

Dear FODOS members,

Apologies for the late confirmation.

The ongoing problem with Himalayan Balsam along the River Chelmer remains, and as previously mentioned I think it would be worthwhile to carry out a late spring work party to remove some areas.

I am under no illusions that this will completely solve the problem, but I think if we adopt a methodical approach working down each year from the highest locations upstream, we might hopefully reduce its impact if followed up each year.

There are 3 areas, and those attending can chose on the day which they prefer to work on. One area is readily accessible, but another (stone bridge) will require people in the river in wellies or waders.

I will be in touch with more details and the safety sheet later in the week, but I wanted to confirm that it’s going ahead.

We will be meeting at 10am in the Braintree Road carpark at The Rec.

Kind regards,

Paul

Our group spent a weekend morning collecting rubbish dropped by those who don’t appreciate that it can maim and kill our wildlife, as well as leaving our open spaces an absolute eyesore.

Thank you to all who got involved 🙏

Yesterday, 7 of Friends of Dunmow’s Open Spaces litter-picked a green path which runs alongside a recent housing development. The path was awash with filled dog poo bags, food packaging, bottles, cans and random other detritus. We filled around 10 large sacks with waste plus other items and a number of plastic tree guards.

Big shout out to those who gave their Sunday morning to help out and a loud reminder to those who drop their litter to deal responsibly and considerately with it.

If you’d like to join our work parties, please send us a message. We do much nicer jobs as well!
