Volunteers descend on Elmscroft for a day of repairs and repainting!
On Weds 1st July, a team of 17 colleagues from Rapid7 held a community volunteering day at Elmscroft. Arranged by one of our directors, who works at Rapid7, the plan for this day was community outreach to support organisations who support their local communities. This type of event has become a regular occurrence for Rapid7 and we were very happy to receive their team.
Who are Rapid7? Rapid7 operate in the Information Technology (IT) sector and help organisations operationalise cybersecurity with exposure management, detection and response platforms, empowering customers to stay ahead of evolving threats.

During the day, the team tackled the following maintenance tasks:
• Repainting of the Main Hall.
• Repainting of the two function rooms.
• Repairs to the wooden cladding on our 100 year old heritage hall.
• Repainting of the complete wooden exterior.
The external repairs to the building involved the replacement of several sections of life-expired feather-edge cladding which has improved the general appearance of the building as well as ensuring that it remains watertight.
We were very grateful to receive sponsorship of the cladding materials from Barnwood Limited and we were pleased to welcome their representative Millie Griffiths, alongside one of their founding directors, Graham Howell, who visited during the work to see what we were doing and to hear about what happens at Elmscroft.

The repainting of the rooms involved a complete refresh of the décor. In the main hall, a repaint in the same colour has delivered a fresh and cleaner look. In the smaller function rooms, the opportunity was taken to brighten the colours to give a warmer and more welcoming feel.
The outside of the building was repainted in the original classic black associated with wooden halls of the 1920’s era. As the photo’s show, the appearance has improved significantly whilst more protection has been given to the exterior as a whole.
We were very grateful to receive sponsorship for all of the interior and exterior paint from Dulux Decorator Centre through the local Tuffley branch. Their support enabled the volunteer team to completely refresh both the inside and outside of the building, creating a brighter, more welcoming environment for everyone who uses Elmscroft.

We think that the photos speak for themselves. What do you think?
A massive thank you to Rapid7, Barnwood and Dulux Decorator Centre for their generosity, hard work and commitment to supporting the local community. Thanks to their combined efforts, Elmscroft has been transformed and will continue to provide a welcoming space for local groups and residents in the coming years. It is fantastic to see businesses supporting community and charitable causes in this way.
