We invite 8 Scotland-based artists to participate in a collective eco-art performance, with a workshop and optional 2 night residency on The Solway Coast. Artists from any discipline may apply.
Be-coming Tree will take place on the land at Solway Creative Space on The Solway Coast in Dumfries and Galloway on 5/9/26. Eight artists will attend a half-day workshop and on the same day create an improvised collective outdoor performance in the landscape which will be live streamed and have an in-person audience.
Local artists can attend for the day, and those from further afield are invited to stay on the Friday and Saturday nights at SCS or locally.
Each artist will receive a payment of £110 for the performance. There is no extra charge for accommodation or meals. A small travel bursary will be available on request.
About Be-coming Tree
Be-coming Tree is a collective eco-art initiative. It has offered durational, collective performances where global artists interact with local trees and woodlands streaming their action to a shared Zoom screen. Be-coming Tree currently creates in-person collective performances highlighting our interdependence with the more-than-human world.
Be-coming Tree was initiated by artist and co-founder Jatun Risba’s 2020 solo durational performance of the same name.
Be-coming Tree Facilitators:
O.Pen Be and Daniele J Minns are two of the three Be-coming Tree co-founders. O.Pen Be is a recognised Dance Movement Psychotherapist with an ecofeminist live art practice, and Daniele Minns is a live artist and co-director of Solway Creative Space CIC. They are long term collaborators with much collective experience of workshop facilitation and live art performance.
Accommodation:
We may be able to offer some single rooms, but be prepared for twin-room accommodation. There is a shared kitchen and vegetarian meals will be provided.
Workshop 9.30am - 1.30 pm Performance 3-4 pm
Half day experiential artist workshop and documented 1 hour durational collective performance. Through embodied explorations, we will explore the porosity of boundaries, the frictions and intimate entanglements that manifest between ourselves, our environments and more-than-human beings. An exploration in cultivating reciprocity on all levels: inside, outside and in-between, highlighting the interdependence of all beings.
A collective performance will evolve taking place on the land. It will create a human-bodied woodland with an in-person and live streamed audience.
