Good afternoon everyone - here's our latest update regarding fundraising, recent Star Award winner and ways you can support us in our work.

29/07/2026

Due to our end of year on Friday the 31st July (and the need to count our cavernous storerooms), we will be closing at 6pm on that day in Medway Maritime Hospital. Sheppey and Wainscott store opening hours are unaffected. The night window should be open as normal.

*** No longer accepting new enquiries - the response has been immense, thank you everyone. Closing date for applications already requested is Friday 31st July at 5pm ***

We have a vacancy for a 4 day a week General Assistant at our First Rate Cafe & Shop at Medway Maritime Hospital. It would be contracted at 23.5 hours per week (normally no more than 6 hours a day from Sunday to Wednesday) and currently pays £13.45 per hour.

The role involves customer service including hot food & drink preparation, cash handling and till work as well as merchandising, date checking, stock rotation, and placing some supplier orders. This is an entry level position, so while some experience is desirable, it is not necessarily essential.

Get in touch for an application pack.

We held our 59th Annual General Meeting last night, reviewing the 2024/25 financial year.

During that period and thanks to the amazing work of our volunteers, staff and trustees, we donated £365,000 of equipment to local NHS services (with another £100,000 of purchases approved before the year ended) - nearly half a million pounds of essential equipment!

We'd like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of our supporters - from our team, our customers, the suppliers and the people of Medway NHS Foundation Trust who direct the funding to where it is most useful.

We are enormously grateful for the support and hard work of our team of dedicated volunteers. As you can see they do a huge amount of work for us and by extension the local community. Not only do they provide a service to the customers of the League of Friends shops and the listeners of Hospital Radio Medway, they are also directly responsible for raising a significant amount of money toward improving the patient experience in Medway Maritime and Sheppey Community Hospitals.

Thank you one and all!

We are grateful for the continued support of the 160 volunteers at the League of Friends and Hospital Radio Medway, who operate independently but work closely with us to enhance patient and visitor experience.

*** Update - The equipment is fixed and we're back up and running as normal ***

Good morning. Due to equipment failure, we are currently unable to serve hot food (other than soup, toast & tea cakes) from our cafe in Medway Maritime Hospital. We aim to have this rectified as soon as possible.
