Some of our lovely local people at our weekly Hub social 😁

Every Wednesday at 2pm, Hub members gather for a cuppa, a slice of cake, and a chance to chat. Nothing formal, just a chance to step away from the screen and catch up with the people around you.

If you haven't come across it before, The Edventure Hub is a community workspace on Park Hill Drive, near Welsh Mill Park, just a few minutes walk from town. Lots of local people work from here; some all the time, some just now and again - it's a flexible way to get the house and see people whilst being productive, too.

One of the nicest things about the Hub is that plenty of people arrive not knowing anyone and soon find themselves part of the community.

Of course, there's also fast Wi-Fi, screens, meeting rooms, and endless tea and coffee, so you can get your best work done here.

The Hub is run by Edventure, a local non-profit that helps people start businesses and runs projects including the Community Fridge and Fromebase.

Just starting out making change in your rural community? If you're finding it magic, and messy, you're not alone.

We've made something just for you. It's the stuff we wish we'd had when we started, made to help you spend less time with a search engine and more time with your community.

Rural Changemakers is a free new resource library, built from five years of community-led action in and around Frome and co-created with others doing this work on the ground across the South West.

At its heart are short, honest audio conversations with people who have been where you are, talking openly about what worked, what didn't, and what kept them going.

You can hear them on running your first community event, connecting with your GP surgery, enhancing local democracy, engaging your community, and more. Two companion directories sit alongside, gathering the practical things you might need to get things moving - from set-up to fundrasiing, volunteers, events and more.

Our biggest insight from putting this together: while our hard-won village or market town actions can seem small scale, when we join up beyond our local boundaries, they create a much larger force for change.

Do you have an old laptop, phone, computer, or tablet gathering dust?

Did you know you can donate unwanted tech at Edventure's Fromebase, and help tackle digital poverty across the South West.

Edventure are proud to be a drop-off point for Donate IT, a charity that gives unwanted devices a second life.

Donated phones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers, and other tech are securely wiped, refurbished where possible, and passed on free of charge to people who need them. Devices that can't be reused are responsibly recycled.

It's a simple way to clear some space, reduce waste, and help someone get connected.

Drop donations off at Fromebase during opening hours - Monday and Wednesday 9.30 to 5.30, and Friday 1.30 to 5.30.

Do you work for yourself in Frome or nearby?

We’re running a practical session to help self-employed people feel more confident with bookkeeping, without jargon or unnecessary stress.

It’s for anyone who wants a simple way to stay on top of their finances. No experience needed.

Whether your records are in a spreadsheet, a notebook, or a shoebox full of receipts, we’ll help you build a simple bookkeeping system that works in real life.

You’ll learn the basics of bookkeeping, how to use a simple income and expenses spreadsheet, what records HMRC expects you to keep, and when tools like Xero or QuickBooks might be useful.

There will be live demonstrations, real-life examples and plenty of time to ask questions. Bring a laptop if you’d like to follow along in Excel, but it’s not essential.

We’re also running a follow-on session later in June called Self Assessment Made Simple, which walks you step-by-step through completing a tax return using the HMRC portal.

Do you work from home, but wish you had a proper desk somewhere else?

We’re looking for one or two people who need a regular work base in Frome.

At The Edventure Hub, we currently have two individual fixed desks available. They could be a good fit for freelancers, remote workers, self-employed people, small business owners, or anyone who wants a regular desk away from home.

It’s a calm, friendly place to work without needing to rent a full private office.

You’ll get your own dedicated desk, 24/7 access, fast Wi-Fi, tea and coffee, shared spaces, use of meeting rooms, and a welcoming coworking community.

It’s £171 per month, and there are only two desks available at the moment.

You’re very welcome to come in for a free trial day, or just pop in for a quick look around.
