We give our time to raising funds for local & international organisations that need our support.

It`s that time of year again for our Christmas Shoe Box Appeal, that we send out to disadvantaged & displaced children in: The Ukraine, Moldova and Romania.

We have started to deliver them to local schools and Pre School this week for our wonderful families to fill.
We know that times can be hard for some this year, so if you can`t manage to fill a box, then a few items donated will be lovely and we can make up full boxes that way too.

If you can help make this Christmas extra special for children in difficult circumstances, please get in touch for a box.
In the photos are the items we`d love to have, and sadly things we can`t.
But most importantly are photos of some of the children we send them too.

A group of Rotarians visited Tools for Self Reliance based near Totton today, a charity which our Club has been pleased to support in recent years, and what a fun and informative time we had.

Now 46 years old, the Charity supports people in 4 African countries to build sustainable livelihoods by providing not only unwanted surplus refurbished quality tools, as we first generally believed, but also full skills and training programs to enable them build resilient lives and thriving communities.

With collection centres around the country, Totton is their head office, with about 400 part time volunteers available to sort, assess, repair and pack all sorts of tools and equipment. Over 1700 people have been helped in the past year alone!

We were warmly welcomed and had a tour of their amazing workshops & stores and given a presentation on their work.

There is a lovely little shop there too.

It was a pleasure to be invited to the opening of the Avon Valley Shed in Fordingbridge & wonderful to see some of the work they do in the community.
Most importantly, it's a great place for men to keep busy, make friends and have fun.

On Saturday, as a major part of Fordingbridge's Park Fest, the Rotary Club once again organised its Duck Race on the River Avon alongside the town's Riverside Park.
Raising significant funds for local charities & groups, there were again two races. The first for company-sponsored ducks -about 100 took part- the second for so many generous individuals who bought tickets, enabling over 3000 ducks to take part. A major attraction was the twin horse and cart which delivered the ducks to the start. The river was very low, but the ducks managed somehow!!!
The winners of both races have been informed- 1302, 2331 & 2540. Corporate winner was number 62.
A big 'Thank you' to all those who once again supported this popular annual event.

Last Saturday(11th July), a small group of Club members enjoyed a lovely trip on SS Shieldhall, sailing from Dock gate 10, Southampton out to the Isle of Wight to watch the annual Round IOW yacht race.

Arranged by a member of the Club who also volunteers on the steamship, we joined over 150 other passengers on the ship for a fun day, with glorious weather, watching the leading yachts turn north around the east of the island off Bembridge, enjoying good food, drink and good company.

SS Shieldhall is Britain's last working steamship, commissioned in 1955 as a slurry tanker! Rescued from scrap in 1988, she is now a successful tourist attraction in her own right, operated by a charity, with volunteers. Visit SS-Shieldhall.co.uk to find out more, including her planned excursions.
