π The arrival of hot weather meant that the crew at Filey had a busy bank holiday weekend, with three incidents across three days and both boats being launched on service. π
Our βshoutβ on Monday was to the aid of a broken down 10.5 metre fishing vessel with three people on board. The casualty vessel was 7.3 nautical miles from our launch site, east of Filey Bay. Our Atlantic 85 Lifeboat towed the vessel for a duration of around 2 hours and 20 minutes to the safety of Scarborough Harbour before returning to station.
Pictured is the navigation screen displaying casualty position and route to follow.
All of our boat crew train regularly in the use of electronic navigation equipment, alongside other means, so that we can locate and assist casualties as quickly and safely as possible, whatever the conditions.
π In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the coastguard
