What a fantastic Bronze Radio Course!

This weekend, 229 Farnham Sqn hosted a Wing wide Bronze Radio Course, with 4 of their own cadets attending. With a 100% pass rate and some very engaged cadets, the weekend was a huge success.

We were also fortunate to host some cadets from who are not only in a different wing, but also a different region! Does this make it an inter-region run course?

As National Cadets Week continues, we’re celebrating the dedication and growth of our cadets — and today we highlight Cdt Sgt Goode, whose commitment to developing her skills and supporting others has been outstanding.

Her journey has shown how perseverance, teamwork, and confidence can turn challenges into achievements. As she prepares to head to America to join the Civil Air Patrol, we wish her every success and thank her for everything she’s contributed to 229 (Farnham) Squadron.

National Cadet Week is here — and we’re opening our doors!

Join us on Saturday 10 October, when 229 (Farnham) Squadron will be open from 1000–1400 hrs for our Open Day for new recruits.

Throughout the day you’ll be able to:

Meet our cadets and staff

See demonstrations of key RAF Air Cadet activities including drill, first aid, radio communications, fieldcraft, STEM challenges, leadership tasks and aviation‑themed activities including our VR flight sim.

Get hands-on with some of the equipment and activities.

Explore what life as an Air Cadet is really like.

We’ll also be running two New Recruit Presentations for parents and young people:

1100 hrs
1300 hrs

These sessions explain how the RAF Air Cadets works, what opportunities are available, and how to join. You’re welcome to attend the demonstrations first and then the presentation — or the other way around. There’s no need to stay for the whole day; drop in at the time that suits you.

Last night, cadets and staff from 229 (Farnham) Squadron came together with friends, supporters and alumni to celebrate 85 years of the Air Training Corps and of our Squadron’s service to the Farnham community.

It was a chance to recognise the dedication, commitment and spirit shown by generations of cadets and volunteers.

We were honoured to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Farnham, Gp Capt Rowlands MA ChMICPD RAF (Retd), RAFAC staff from Surrey & Middlesex Wing and London & South East Region, representatives from the RAF Association and the Royal British Legion, and many parents of our current cadets.

The evening also included a fundraising raffle to support ongoing activities at the Squadron. We are incredibly grateful to the companies and individuals who donated prizes (in alphabetical order):

Esprit de Corps – Rosier Trophy: Cdt Massey
Best Cadet NCO – Merryweather Plate: Cdt FS Wild
Best Cadet - The Gp Capt D. Rowlands Cup: Cdt Miller

The CO emphasised that these awards reflect exceptional effort, but that many cadets were equally deserving — a testament to the strength and commitment across the Squadron.

As we look ahead to the next 85 years, we are inspired by today’s cadets and guided by the motto of the Squadron and the Corps: Be Bold & Venture Adventure.
