Reaching the top of a mountain takes determination, preparation and perseverance. Changing a child’s future through education requires the very same commitment. This photograph of Loren Charlton holding the UCEP flag reminds us that some causes are worth going the extra mile for. Education opens doors that poverty tries to close. It creates opportunity, restores hope and empowers children to shape better futures for themselves and their communities. At UCEP, we believe every child deserves that chance. In November 2022, Loren Charlton set out to climb Ama Dablam, a 6,812m peak in Nepal known as one of the toughest mountains in the world, all to raise funds for UCEP. A month of brutal cold, exhausting climbs, and real risk, taken on so that more children in Arochukwu, Umuoru, and Ohafia could afford to go to school. This is why education matters to us. For too many children, the difference between going to school and staying home isn't ability or ambition. It's circumstance.

That's the reality UCEP was built to change. We exist for one simple reason: every child deserves access to education, no matter their circumstances. Right now, we work alongside families across Arochukwu, Umuoru/Aba, and our newest cluster in Ohafia, helping children get into school, stay in school, and dream bigger because of it.

A huge congratulations and thank you to Loren Charlton for successfully completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in support of UCEP.

This achievement is about more than miles walked or peaks conquered. It represents hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for children who might otherwise be denied access to education.

He gives guidance. Protection. Encouragement. Hope.

This Father's Day, we celebrate fathers and father figures who go the extra mile to help children learn, grow, and dream bigger.

At UCEP, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to receive an education and build a better future, regardless of the circumstances they were born into. Through school fee support, mentoring, and safeguarding initiatives, we help out-of-school children in rural West Africa return to school and continue their education in a safe and supportive environment.
