We continue to press for the shuttle-bus to be maintained in the Lambourn valley.

The roadworks in the Valley continue, This will have an impact on the route of the shuttle bus that connects with the number 4 bus service running between Lambourn and Newbury. It appears that the responsibility for running the shuttle lies with Thames Water and its contractors, Clancy. However, it doesn’t seem that there’s any obligation that this be continued throughout the roadworks period, despite the fact that these works have interrupted a scheduled service on which people rely.

Breaking the ground: work set to start on the Wetland Reserve in Hungerford.

On 26 August, the Town & Manor of Hungerford held a ground-breaking ceremony at the Kennet Valley Wetland Reserve (KVWR) site, attended by about fifty people. These included representatives of many of the individuals and organisations who’ve been involved with the KVWR to date.

The Eastbury Plough closed its doors for the last time about six months ago. As Eastbury had also lost its village hall in 2024, that left the village without any secular community building. England is losing about two pubs a day and there were many who feared that this one would become another statistic in this sad decline.

Or maybe not. A community-led initiative has been launched under the provisional name of The Eastbury to acquire the freehold and bring the pub back to life.
