The Good Plate

The Good Plate is the Real Junk Food Project cafe in Earls Barton! Everyone is equal in getting fed and it is up to the individual to pay what they can.

The Good Plate is part of The Real Junk Food Project network, started by Adam Smith in Leeds, and works closely with Elsie's Cafe in Northampton. The Real Junk Food Project is a network of national
and international movement of cafes and projects which aims to intercept good food that is destined for landfill to feed it to the world, thus feeding bellies and not bins. The Good Plate aims to serve delicious and nutritious meals, using ingredients that are perfectly edible. We hope to provide not only a good meal, but a pleasant environment for anyone and everyone --- people from anywhere and all walks of life, whilst working on reducing waste. We aim to cater to varied dietary requirements so that everyone who comes in can have something to eat. We operate on a “Pay As You Feel’ concept where people are encouraged to think about what their plate of food means to them, and value it in whatever way they can. By choosing not to segregate people based on financial circumstances, we are able to not only fund the project, but can do so in a way that does not patronise those who need it and those who want to support it. All donations are gratefully received and will go towards paying for essentials (like heating, gas, water and electricity) needed to run this cafe successfully, and all of us work on a voluntary basis. To keep things fair and sustainable for everyone, our stall will be running differently:

3:10pm to 3:35pm £5 minimum donation
3:40pm onwards Fair donations, please

We work hard to make good food available at our stall. Our heart is to help as many people as we can:
- to help you save a little on your groceries
- to help others who are going through a tough time and
- to also help people beyond our community.

Your financial donations really help us to be able to reach people beyond the people you see. So we ask you to be fair in what you give for what you take --- together, we can do more to make the world a better place!

Thank you for being thoughtful and considerate, and for being generous according to your circumstances. Thank you to everyone who plays your part towards making the world a better place. 🙂

(As always, please feel free to come along to ask our volunteers if you have questions.)
