OPEKA OPEKA is a charity that provides activities to ASN Adults over the age of 18.

Tuesday:1pm to 3pm(Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice)
Thursday:1pm to 3pm (Eaglesham)
Friday:1pm to 3pm (Eaglesham) We offer a wide range of activities such as, Music, Dance, Art and a new Virtual Reality Experience using the Oculus Headsets. Our project runs every Thursday and Friday from 12pm to 2pm at Orchardhill Parish Church in Giffnock. Many Thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund and The Robertson Trust's 'Wee Grants for Wee Groups' for their kindness in funding our project.

🎉📖 OPEKA Cookbook Launch at Eaglesham Fair! 📖🎉

We are delighted to announce the launch of our very first OPEKA Cookbook, Bake With OPEKA, at the Eaglesham Fair on Saturday 6th June!

Over the past year, our participants have enjoyed regular baking sessions alongside Lesley Watson from LJ Loves to Bake, creating delicious recipes, building confidence, learning new skills, and making wonderful memories together. Now, we're excited to share some of their favourite recipes with you in this special cookbook.

From Rocky Road and Chocolate Cake to Cheese Scones and Soda Bread, every recipe has been chosen by our participants and reflects the creativity, joy, and sense of community that makes OPEKA so special.

💜 All proceeds from cookbook sales will go directly back into OPEKA, helping us continue providing meaningful activities and opportunities for adults with additional support needs.

📍 Find us at LJ Loves to Bake's stall in the crafters section, opposite the Eglinton Arms in the centre of Eaglesham.

The Eaglesham Fair is a fantastic day out for the whole family, with food and drink stalls, craft vendors, vintage cars, entertainment, fairground rides, and much more.

We're also pleased that accessible changing facilities, including a portable hoist and changing bed, will be available at Montgomery Hall beside Eaglesham Library.

🤠 This year's theme is Wild West, so dust off your cowboy hats and join us for what promises to be a brilliant day!

We can't wait to see you there and celebrate this special achievement with our participants, families, supporters, and community.

We’re incredibly grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund for supporting OPEKA with funding towards essential operational costs that help us continue delivering the activities and support our community relies on. 💛

This funding will help cover the costs of a mobile Changing Places area, as well as transport costs over the next two years, both of which are essential in helping us create more accessible, inclusive and welcoming spaces for everyone.

Behind every activity we deliver is a huge amount of unseen work and infrastructure that keeps things running safely and smoothly, and this support makes a real difference.

Thank you to National Lottery Community Action Fund for helping community organisations like OPEKA continue creating spaces where people feel supported, included and connected. 🌟

🎶💆♀️ Tuesday Group Music & Massage 💆♂️🎶

Every Tuesday at OPEKA we create a calm, welcoming space where music, relaxation, and connection come together. 💛

During our Group Music & Massage sessions, each person gets the chance to choose a song that means something to them, whether it brings back memories, helps them relax, or simply makes them smile. As the music plays, specialised therapists provide gentle massage therapy tailored to support relaxation and wellbeing.

These sessions are about so much more than just music and massage. They help reduce stress and anxiety, encourage self-expression, build confidence, and create meaningful social connections in a safe and supportive environment. For many of our members, it’s a moment in the week to truly unwind and feel heard. ✨

We love seeing the joy that fills the room through shared music, laughter, movement, and moments of calm. 🎵

🎨💐 Fridays at OPEKA = Art Time

Every Friday, our art sessions bring colour, creativity, and connection into the room and this week was no different.

In this video, our participants were making beautiful paper flowers under Bronwyn’s gentle guidance 🌸✨ Watching ideas come to life through simple materials is always something special.

Art sessions offer so much more than creativity they support focus, confidence, self-expression, and social connection in a relaxed, welcoming space. There’s no pressure, just encouragement and the joy of making something with your own hands.

🐾💛 A Few Weeks Ago at OPEKA…

A few weeks ago, we were delighted to welcome a wonderful therapy dog to one of our Thursday sessions and the impact was truly heart-warming.

From gentle cuddles to quiet moments of connection, the room felt calmer, brighter, and full of smiles 🐶✨

Therapy dog sessions can help reduce anxiety, encourage communication, support emotional regulation, and create a sense of comfort and safety. For many of our participants, it’s a powerful way to build confidence and experience joy in a relaxed, supportive setting.

We’re so grateful to be able to offer experiences like this the difference they make is incredible 💛

🚗💛 New Partnership Announcement 💛🚗

We’re really excited to share that we’ve partnered with Myle Cars to help support transport to our activities. We’ve actually been working together since December, and it’s been great to see the impact already.

Access to transport can be a real barrier for many people taking part in community activities. Thanks to this partnership, we’re able to make it easier for participants to get to and from our sessions safely and reliably.

This collaboration helps us remove practical barriers and focus on what matters most - creating inclusive, welcoming activities that people can actually attend.
