🌊🦀 ARRAN CUB CAMP DAY 5 🦀🌊

We had a long clean-up first thing, and our soon-to-be Scouts showed some fantastic leadership skills as they led the way and got everyone stuck in.

Once we’d checked out of our home for the weekend, we headed to the beach and ended up having such a good time that we stayed much longer than planned! Everyone was having far too much fun digging in the sand, paddling in the sea, and finding crabs, fish and all sorts of other sea creatures. 🐟

We even built our own campfire and enjoyed s’mores around it before heading off to find dinner. That turned into a bit more of an adventure than expected when our pre-ordered chippy was unable to fulfil the order due to an electrical disaster! All ended well though, with a last-minute dash for food on the ferry and our leaders hot-footing it to get a place in the queue before the restaurant closed! 😂 Thankfully, we made it, enjoyed dinner on the ferry home, and it was all part of the fun!

Throughout the whole trip, the kids were extremely well behaved and an absolute pleasure to take away. We were so proud of them all. ❤️

And we can’t thank Emma and Tom at Balmichael Glamping enough for all their help and for making us feel so welcome. It’s a stunning location with fantastic facilities, including a games room, honesty shop and laundry area, all set on a working farm with animals wandering around — it wasn’t unusual to have a duck or hen popping its head into a tent!

A brilliant end to a fantastic trip!

🍔 🥾 ARRAN CUB CAMP DAY 4 🥾🍔

Another fun-packed day! Activity highlights being the Mogabout and a joyful hike along the coast. We split into two groups with one doing the Fisherman’s walk circuit along the coast and the other going out on the Arran’s Safari equivalent - the Mogabout - before switching.

Dinner was a BBQ 😋 and we wished one of our cubs a happy birthday with cake! We are fortunate enough to have TWO cubs, who happen to be brothers, choosing to celebrate their birthdays on this camp - one on Thursday and one today. Even more fortunate that their mum is a leader!

We are experiencing all seasons every day on this camp, effortlessly adapting to each as we go. Tonight we admired a clear sky of stars 🌟

🥳🐟 ARRAN CUB CAMP DAY 3 🐟🥳

Today we not only ventured to but participated in the 🎉Arran highlands games🎉! With some of the cubs choosing to compete in the 75m running race! 👏

It was a brilliant day to watch the activities with lots of bagpipes, stalls and activities. We also saw a couple of our friends from Wednesday Cubs and Monday Scouts who were also visiting the island.

After pasta for dinner, we had the BEST PARTY EVER featuring karaoke and dancing hosted by our young leader Finn! It was a night to remember with the older cubs leading the way by taking centre stage.

🥳🐟 ARRAN CUB CAMP DAY 2 🐟🥳

We started the day by splitting the pack into three groups. We decided on clan names and slogans for our groups: The Hamish’s, The Warriors, and The Black Knights. We then made our clan crest and flags. Each one will be competing in our own version of the Highland games throughout our time here, starting with the cable throw, which the Black Knights won 🏆🎉

After lunch, we went to the COAST Discovery Centre, who arranged activities for us, including a boat trip where we stopped at relevant points to learn about sea wild life and protecting it. We took a sample of the water back to the centre to observe under a microscope learnt some more, fed crabs and also participated in a beach clean.

After dinner, we danced and were treated to some of Finn’s bag pipe renditions, and ended the evening in the games room. 🥳

🏕️🤩 ARRAN CUB CAMP DAY 1 🤩🏕️

Couldn’t have wished for a better first day on Arran! After a successful ferry trip, we were fortunate enough to have glorious weather, so we spent time exploring Silver Sands beach before checking into our Glamping site at Balmichael.

Once we set up camp in our stunning surroundings with alpacas and mountain views, we enjoyed chilli for dinner. We then had fun in the games room before settling for the night in our tents and pods.

WINGS Day 8 ⚜️

Today marked the end of our week at WINGS Jamboree.

It was an early start as everyone got to work packing down camp before heading home. Our Scouts and Explorers did a fantastic job mucking in to help dismantle the campsite, with everything packed away right on schedule before making our way to the coache.

The journey back to Williamwood High School went smoothly, giving everyone the chance to relax, catch up on some sleep and reflect on everything they'd experienced over the past week. From trying new activities and developing new skills to making new friendships and creating lasting memories, it has been a week to remember.

One tradition that certainly left its mark was a little bit of Scottish "coning"! 🦺 Three of our Explorers embraced the tradition of placing traffic cones on top of just about anything they could! Safe to say they left quite an impression, with even members of the WINGS event team joining in by the end of the week. It's fair to say the tradition has found a new home!

As this year's camp comes to a close, we'd also like to say a huge thank you to Tony O'Brien, Paul Mullan, Scott O'Brien and Nathan McPhail for everything they have done over the past five years to make these summer camps possible. From months of planning behind the scenes to giving up annual leave and volunteering their time year after year, their commitment has provided countless young people with opportunities and experiences they will never forget. As this marks their final summer camp, thank you for all of your hard work, dedication and support over the years. 🧡

WINGS Day 7 ⚜️

Today marked our final full day at WINGS Jamboree, with our Scouts and Explorers completing the last two Activity Guilds before the week came to a close. 🏕️

The morning was spent at the Waverider's Guild 💦, where everyone got stuck into a variety of water-themed activities. Highlights included the colour run 🌈, slip 'n' slide, zorbing and a range of other challenges throughout the morning.

In the afternoon, it was on to the Merchants Guild 🏪, where enterprise and teamwork took centre stage. Working in small groups, the Scouts put their entrepreneurial skills to the test by creating and selling sweet treats to one another, competing to see who could make the biggest profit while putting their planning and teamwork into practice.

The evening began with the Closing Ceremony, bringing together everyone who had taken part in WINGS 2026 before officially bringing the event to a close. The celebrations then continued with a live performance from Toploader 🎶, followed by an laser light show finale ✨ to round off the week.

WINGS Day 6 ⚜️

Today, our Scouts and Explorers took on two more Activity Guilds at WINGS Jamboree, with a mix of adrenaline-filled challenges and a chance to explore beyond the campsite. 🏕️

The morning was spent at the Scalers and Miners Guild 🧗, where everyone had the opportunity to put their courage and determination to the test. Activities included climbing, abseiling, crate stacking, the airbag drop and a variety of other high ropes and adventure challenges, with plenty of Scouts pushing themselves to try something new.

In the afternoon, it was time for the Adventurers Guild 🚶. Everyone headed into Windsor, where the Scouts were able to explore the town at their own leisure, visit some of the local shops and landmarks, and then make their own way back to the campsite. It was a great opportunity to enjoy a little independence while taking in everything Windsor has to offer.

The evening was rounded off with Battle of the Bands 🎸, where four bands performed across two stages, giving everyone plenty of live music to enjoy before another busy day at WINGS came to a close.

WINGS Day 5 ⚜️

Today was the hottest day of the week so far at WINGS Jamboree with temperatures reaching 33°C ☀️. Despite the heat, our Scouts and Explorers got stuck into every activity, making sure to keep hydrated, top up on sun cream and take regular breaks throughout the day.

The morning saw us head to the Challengers Guild 🛡️, where teamwork, determination and a little friendly competition were the order of the day. Activities included gladiator-style inflatable challenges, precision airsoft shooting with the Army 🎯, and a range of team challenges that put communication and problem-solving skills to the test.

In the afternoon, everyone travelled off-site to the Voyagers Guild 🚣, where the focus shifted to life on the water. Scouts took part in rafting and bell boating, working together to navigate the water while making the most of the sunshine and enjoying a change of scenery.

The evening offered another fantastic selection of entertainment, including a spectacular fire show 🔥, salsa dancing 💃, the evening DJ 🎧 and, of course, a visit to the marketplace for some well-earned snacks. It was the perfect way to round off another busy day at WINGS.

WINGS Day 4 ⚜️

Today, our Scouts and Explorers continued making their way through the Activity Guilds, taking on two more exciting challenges at WINGS Jamboree 🏕️

The morning was spent at the Bards Guild 🎭, where everyone had the chance to get involved in a range of performance-based activities. From African drumming 🥁 and circus skills 🎪 to other musical and creative challenges, there were plenty of opportunities to step outside of comfort zones and give something new a try.

In the afternoon, it was on to the Survivalists Guild 🪵, where Scouts put their outdoor skills to the test. Activities included preparing and cooking fish 🐟, exploring caving techniques, axe throwing 🪓 and a variety of other backwoods challenges, giving everyone the chance to learn practical skills while having plenty of fun along the way.

The evening was packed with entertainment across the site, with campfire karaoke 🔥🎤, medieval storytelling 📖, WINGS Got Talent 🌟 and the evening DJ 🎧 all on offer. Whether performing, cheering on new friends or simply enjoying the atmosphere, there was something for everyone to round off another great day at WINGS.
