Handcrafted Connecting with the most excluded people in society to offer them opportunities that can empower them to turn their own lives around

Handcrafted works alongside disadvantaged people in County Durham who long to turn their lives around, but need opportunities, mentoring
and practical help. We work with people who have multiple and complex needs,
including homelessness, mental health, offending and drug, alcohol & substance abuse. We involve them in meaningful and empowering training and experience doing woodwork, landscape garde

ning and house renovation projects. Through this we teach
both practical and social skills. Trainees can then progress onto our Enterprise project to
set up their own business or start an apprenticeship.

We were really pleased to welcome the Northumbria PCC to our Sunderland hub to meet some of the women who have completed our 12-week Own My Life course.

The visit gave the women the opportunity to speak openly about their experiences, the difference the course has made, and the confidence and support they have found in one another along the way.

We’re incredibly proud of them for sharing their stories — and very grateful for the PCC’s Supporting Victims programme funding, which is helping us provide this space for women who have experienced domestic abuse to understand what they have been through, rebuild confidence and take back greater control over their lives.

A little flower fairy magic in Sunderland 🧚‍♀️🌸

Our women’s group got creative this week, transforming old egg boxes into colourful flower fairies.

A chance to sit together, make something, have a chat and enjoy some time being creative with one another.

And we have to say, that these finished fairies are pretty impressive for something that started life as an egg box. ♻️✨

We currently have a limited number of places available at our next SETPD Entry Level 3 catering course.

Over 16 weeks, you could learn how to prepare a range of healthy, affordable dishes, build practical kitchen skills and make food to take home.
