Established in 2017, 'Elvet Green' (formerly H**p Garden) is a grassroots, volunteer-driven community garden and public park in Durham City – maintained and managed by HGCA CIC. Established in 2017, H**p Garden Community Garden is a grassroots, volunteer-driven, community-focused initiative located in the heart of Durham City, UK. Our mission is to transform a former bowling green left abandoned and disused since 2001 into a thriving and sustainable urban garden and multifunctional event space that promotes social inclusion, community cohesion, and environmental stewardship. This guerilla gardening-inspired project is proudly maintained by our dedicated volunteers and Cut & Strim Garden and Property Services.

This morning, we have tidied up the park, reset the flowerbed boundaries, cleaned up the nature walk seating areas, wiped down the benches, and topped up the bird feeders.

We have litter picked the park, racecourse, and riverbanks, along with sweeping all of the park pathways and entrances clear. We've also raked up and swept the riverside path clear of leaves to improve public safety and reduce any potential trip hazard.

While we fully support the new Baths Bridge and want to see it built, we don’t believe that it should mean sacrificing Elvet Green! If you agree, please sign and share the petition!

Today, we've swept all the pathways, raked the fallen leaves, and generally tidied up all of the loose debris from Storm Boelo. We've wiped down the benches, topped up the bird feeders, and tidied up the nature walk seating areas.

We've also litter picked the racecourse, riverbanks, and park along with replacing the entrance bin bags.

We have continued our work to open up the riverside entrance next to the former WC building. We are using the removed loam to level out the impacted ground on the southside of the park ready for grass reseeding in the spring.

While we fully support the new Baths Bridge and want to see it built, we don’t believe that it should mean sacrificing Elvet Green! If you agree, please sign and share the petition!

There's new life popping up all over the park this time of year. Fungi is emerging, the winter plants are starting to open, and the late bloomers are still going strong until the first hard frost.

We spotted this lot on our regular midweek litter pick of the park. The leaves are also quickly turning and falling, creating some truly wonderful colours.

While we fully support the new Baths Bridge and want to see it built, we don’t believe that it should mean sacrificing Elvet Green. If you agree, please sign and share the petition!

Today, we've reset the flowerbed boundaries, wiped down all the benches, replaced the entrance bin bags, and litter picked the racecourse, riverbanks, and park.

We've also cut back the overgrown Cherry Laurel, tidied up the toilet block entrance, and began leveling out the southside entrance to protect the tree roots and improve public access and safety.

There's loads of fungi appearing with the changing seasons and the birds have returned to make use of the recently reinstalled feeders around the park.

While we fully support the new Baths Bridge and want to see it built, we don’t believe that it should mean destroying Elvet Green to make it happen. If you agree, please sign and share the petition!
