We've swept and deweed all of the pathways and edges, tidied up the flowerbed boundaries, replaced the entrance bin bags, and litter picker the park, riverbanks, and riverside.

We've also repaired the broken fencing near the southside park entrance, deweeded the outside flowerbeds, and wiped down the benches.

While we fully support the new Baths Bridge and want to see it built, we don’t believe that it should mean sacrificing Elvet Green. If you agree, please sign and share the petition!

We've done our usual litter picking of the park, racecourse, and riverbanks. Along with changing the entrance bin bags today.

The council has also been down and cut the grass at the park today. It's great to see how well the former bald spots on the green have recovered after we seeded it earlier in the year.

As you may be aware, we’ve launched our Build the Bridge. Protect Elvet Green petition. While we fully support the new Baths Bridge and want to see it built, we don’t believe that it should mean sacrificing Elvet Green.

Today, we've swept all of the park pathways along with deweeding and tidying up the path edging. We've cut back the overgrowth around the toilet block entrance and wiped down the benches.

We've also changed the entrance bin bags and litter picked the racecourse, riverbanks, and park.

We're so proud of our little apple tree. For many years, she failed to produce any fruit at all due to being so heavily overgrown with brambles and nettles.

The mulch ring we applied earlier this year has really helped perk her up. It's great to see her healthy and producing dozens of full sized fruits this season!

The fencing and 'No entry' signs around the park has been removed! We do not know who has taken them down or who erected them in the first place.

We fully support the new Baths Bridge and want to see it it built, but we don’t believe that should mean sacrificing Elvet Green.

They’re asking local people which green spaces matter to them, why they matter, who already cares for them and what they would like to see for their future.

Elvet Green has been fenced off.

We arrived on site today to carry out our regular litter picking and found the park entrances closed to the public behind metal fencing and ‘No Entry’ signs. There was no notice on the fencing explaining who had erected it or why.

The fencing and 'No entry' signs now prevents lawful access to the park for its regular visitors, including wheelchair users, many older people, dog walkers, families and others who cannot safely get over the back wall.

At the same time, the unfenced wall along the alleyway remains easy to get around for anyone prepared to ignore the signs. We are concerned that this could create the conditions for the antisocial behaviour that previously blighted the former bowling green to return.

The people who use and care for the park are now being excluded, while those prepared to ignore the signs can still gain access.

We fully support the new Baths Bridge and want to see it it built, but we don’t believe that should mean sacrificing Elvet Green.

BUILD THE BRIDGE. PROTECT ELVET GREEN.

Build the Bridge. Protect Elvet Green.

We're not against the new Baths Bridge. We want to see it built. However, we do not want Elvet Green to be turned into construction storage to facilitate it.

Since 2017, our volunteers have spent thousands of hours transforming and maintaining the Green from an abandoned former bowling green into a thriving community asset.

Now Durham County Council is proposing to use the Green for construction access and storage while the bridge is built. We think there should be a way to build the bridge while protecting the park.
We’ve started a new petition asking the Council to properly consider alternative locations and commit to protecting Elvet Green from unnecessary or lasting damage.
